These are the charges that were preferred by Investigators.

Remove emotion, apply the law. Baker’s death was tragic, but it is equally important to charge the parties involved appropriately to maintain the public’s trust.

I live in the area, and my Facebook feed was a literal race among people to see who could put up the “Trooper Baker, EOW: 5/24/20” image fastest. Disgusted me.

Continued prayers for his family.

Yeah, it is a strange to see how people respond to things like that this, as if this makes them somehow a part of it, like they share in the loss. Yes, we all lose when a competent and compassionate officer is lost, but some people try to make it seem more personal to them than it actually is.

I always see it as a 'look at me' type thing, whether it is or not, I guess that's for others to decide.

You don’t get that a lot of these people’s motives were not exactly sincere?

There are no murder or manslaughter charges against the 2 guys who fled and wrecked their car. The trooper was killed by Hammond cop.

RIP trooper

as to the perps, I don’t know what they did but it’s not their fault officer goober ran him over in the street. It’s also not surprising it was one of hammonds finest who did it. every interaction I’ve ever had with HPD has left me shaking my head in amazement that these people are allowed to enforce the law

Pick who up later? The occupants would be unidentified. How do you prove who was driving the car?

I get what you're saying but it happens all the time. Pursuits often end badly one way or another. They are costly and in this case, even deadly. Every pursuit is different and LEO need to weigh the pros and cons to whether or not it's worth it.

Safe alternatives: #1 Send a car to the address and wait for them to show up. #2 Have PD waiting at the off ramp exit to the address.

If that was SOP why would people go straight home. They would wait and then claim they weren't the ones driving. The burden of proof is on the police to prove they were driving.

You arent even going to get those charges through the PE.

And everyone would run because why stop if you know they won't chase you. Then claim you weren't driving when the police come to the house

Appreciate the condolences, we went through the academy together and worked the same area over here after.
