I don't bitch about high gas prices because they do have an effect on my job, but at the same time I understand that the low prices benefit a lot more people

You know the people this affects aren't really the ones that have been "raping" you, right?

Take that up with the execs at the top. The people that will get laid off as a consequence of the falling prices had nothing to do with the raping you speak of.

The O&G industry makes a ton of money, some lower gas prices aren't keeping them from being filthy rich organizations.

I guess the poor O&G industry will just have to make do with record breaking quarters for like 7 straight years.

Lol. I love when people say that. Like everyone in the oil field industry is a millionaire. Morons.

No offense, but I doubt these companies are laying off the valuable people either. I didn't get a job and just sit there, I made myself a valuable employee.

You're right. 90% of Americans don't care as long as they're paying less at the pump. And so be it. That's the way markets work.
The only reason this gets any play on this website at all is because so many are working in the O&G industry. I get it...I used to live and work in SE Oklahoma and North Texas for about 2 years. Nothing but O&G.
Job markets and industries change. If people can't diversify and adapt, they will get left behind.

I wonder if these low costs of fuel are just temporary...by that I mean short term...like, within the year they'll be back over $3/gal.

Unemployment checks go further when energy costs are low.

I totally agree. Im not "in the oil industry" but in my line of work, Id love to see oil stay around 90-100/ barrel. The products we produce all depend on what oil is trading at.

I'm way down in the supply line of O&G and this will only somewhat affect us. It's the smaller start up type companies that will suffer. The Shells, BPs and Chevrons of the world will be fine.

Americans getting cheaper gas is wayyyy more important than a couple disposable oilfield jobs
well locally it hurts, so of course it's silly for locals to be cheering the prices
but nationally, we cannot let this hurt our path to world domination in petro exports or we're going to face a much more difficult path when the prices come back into the range where it's economically feasible

We'll probably be back there by the summer.

It takes a lot less to make the price go back up than it did to bring it down
I don't think it will be anything extremely soon but don't bank on these prices staying there for too long

Agreed. A handful of people losing their jobs has much less impact on the economy than lower gas prices throughout the entire country.
The stock market has been taking a nose dive today because of the low oil prices so it affects more than a handful of people
