Alcohol will ruin your weight loss attempts. You'll probably lose a little early on because you probably weren't drinking Ultra before you started this diet,
The empty calories will frick up your attempts over the long term, though.

I didn't weigh that little when I ran 30 miles a week.

Thanks fellas, I usually drink the old faithful red and white Budweiser but a friend told me to drink the Ultras for the low carb diet.
Miller Lite tGOAT only has .6 more carbs and tastes a lot better.

This is true if you don't count them. But if you are eating, say, 1800 calories per day, you can certainly drink 500 calories worth of beer and 1300 calories worth of food. You might hang onto water weight a bit due to being dehydrated, but calories in/calories out is as simple as that. Over time, eating/drinking at a deficit will result in weight loss.

This site is even better. Type your stats and how many calories you plan to consume, and it will tell you exactly what you will weigh each day as time goes on. Again, put sedentary unless you're extremely active. The technical definition of lightly active is working out for like an hour every single day.

All calories are not created equal, and this is coming from someone who eschews low carb diets. They rarely work for the long term. There are exceptions, but most people struggle to maintain these.

So the way I see it, you want to lose 15 lbs in just over a month, but still be able to drink? Good luck with that. Just cut out the alcohol for a month and start and end your day with cardio on an empty stomach.
I'm currently attempting the ketogenic diet and it's been great. I feel way more energetic throughout the day, less hungry at night, and the mental clarity has been quite noticeable. Haven't really been focusing on calories in/out as much because my body now tells me more accurately when I'm hungry, so I'm not eating just to eat. I'm also still able to drink my whiskey with water without impeding my fat loss. If I overindulge in carbs one day, I'll just drastically cut them down the next day, then workout and I'm back to feeling great again.
So, if you wanna go ahead and drink low carb beer at the lake just drink plenty of water and keep your carbs lower than usual for the next few days.

Low carbs enough to for ketosis.. Is very strick. If you can't put the beer away for a while its probably not a good path to take.
If you just want to go low carbs 50_80 a day, that amount of carbs is OK, but the alcohol really hurts your weight lose goals.

I just kind of ended up eating a low carb diet.
I've never been a fan of bread or pasta, love raw veggies, and will eat damn near anything when it comes to meat. Love me some organ meat as well. I also don't really eat sweets.
I'll occasionally have some rice or taters, but small amounts.

That's not how (fairly) rapid weight loss works. If you want to try and lose that much that quickly, you shouldn't be drinking at all.
But I'm pretty sure you knew that when you started this thread.

You should be ok as long as you don't drink that many daily.
I can drink 10 or 12 and still be in ketosis the next day.

You do realize most of the weight loss in low carb diet is water weight.
The last two syllables in Carbohydrate is HYDRATE, you're depleting your body of liquid and thus dropping weight.
The only way to lose fat is to be in a calorie deficit.
Calories in have to be less than calories out. Its that simple.

Having alcohol in your bloodstream will stall any fatburning; your body tries to metabolize the alcohol as energy instead of fat when alcohol is present.

Lol this is one of the most inaccurate posts I have read on this board.

Don't set yourself up to fail.
Losing 20lbs in 4-6 weeks is not possible unless you are extremely overweight.
Set a goal to lose 1.0-1.5lbs a week and maintain what muscle mass you do have.

That calculator is terrible.

So do they rarely work because they just don't work? or do they rarely work because most people struggle to maintain the diet?

Most "diets" don't work simply because people cannot maintain them. It's true for all diets not just low carb. All diets creating a calorie deficit will work if maintained.
