Apparently smoking meat draws them in.
I did a brisket a few days ago. I don’t remember ever seeing that many love bugs in one place. Will wait until they die off before smoking another brisket.

My 8 yr old daughter is doing her part catching and torturing them as they mate.

Yes. I live in the Houston area and have hundreds of dead ones all over my back patio near my back door.

Fall is near, I don't mind them at all.

I used 2 cans of yard guard and had a good smoking fire in the fire pit going. Still got chased into the house at 2:30. I must have killed 10,000 yesterday and they still kept coming in droves. They’ve hung around much longer than usual. I cannot remember having to deal with them during football season. My back porch looks like love bug Jonestown.

This is the longest time I remember them swarming. I feel like they’ve been out in force since mid August.

In Sarasota this spring was the most I have ever seen in my life and they lasted the longest. It was unreal.
We have a few here hatching out but its nothing like it was in the spring.

They’ve been here for 6 weeks. It’s ridiculous.

Stirred them up good cutting grass today. I think I accidentally ate a couple.

Worst I’ve seen them in recent years

Avoyelles Parish not bad at all.
Brother lives north of Beaumont. He said they are freaking terrible.

They’re everywhere in the Shreveport area.

Just delivered to the Walmart DC in Robert - got swarmed by the damned things when I stopped at their gate to check in. Insane. Two of them got squished in the door frame when I got back in the truck.

My old man had one of these in roughly this color
Remember it having more of a farm tractor seat and saddlebags on the back. Called it a "legbreaker" as the kickback to start it could break your leg. The wife made him give it up after WW II and made me promise not to ride one till after she was dead. Needless to say, she lived extremely long and I did not break my promise.
Hate to think of what it would be worth had he passed it to me and about a half century of enjoyment.
