He's in Dubai now.

Noticed an oil slick on the engine cowling so he's having that looked at right now and will be there for an extra couple of days.

Not too bad of a place to get stuck for a few days.

Good for him. America needs some positive stories about young people doing extraordinary things and helping others along the way.
Congratulations Mason. Keep it up.

I'm not saying this kid shouldn't follow his dreams, but as a parent I would want to make sure he had as much training and experience as possible.

What do you think the parents have been doing? Just let him wing it?

Would anything have been done to increase the range of plane like this to take this trip? How much range does a plane need to make a trans ocean trip? Is there a map/tracking of his trip somewhere?

Depending on the route it’s over 2k miles from Hawaii to CA. Yes more fuel capacity would need to be added but it is fairly easy in a plane like the lance. It had quite a bit of carrying capacity. I’m sure he would have had to get an overweight permit, but certainly doable. That trip has been done with much less capable planes.

Is there a standard (most efficient) route that he would have followed for the trip?
