If he survives his on folly he will be a heck of a pilot, Fly the Biggest part back

His parents must be pretty loaded to bankroll their kid’s expensive flying lessons let alone financing a trip around the world.

Does it raise a red flag to anyone else that his furthest flight to date is to the Grand Canyon? Seems like a big jump to decide to go around the world already by himself. I can’t say I would be okay with this if it was my kid. I would want him to build up a lot more and log a ton more hours before doing this. Doing it just to get some record seems like a good idea to the kid but Mom and Dad should be pumping the breaks a little bit

Cool kid! Come home safe!

if he accomplishes this just imagine the good press for Tech's aviation program

Every long flight is just a series of short flights limited by the fuel capacity of the plane, but this kid will probably have a auxiliary tank added in the back of the cabin for longer range. With the avionics available today for small planes, GPS coupled autopilot, moving map navigation charts, satellite weather overlays on your charts, you just punch in your destination and the plane will fly there, as long as the prop keeps spinning he will probably make it fine. I think the current record holder was a 19 year old MIT student when he did it also in a Beech Bonanza, he posted video on YouTube as he progressed around the world.

There was a couple of guys that did this in a Cessna. It's on youtube. Fascinating.

Go Dawgs, go. And god bless.

Why is this considered hard in today's age. It's not like he does his own navigation and shite.
40 days? Say what you want but that's not any type of rigorous schedule.

I think there are aviation rules that involve this. Size of the plane + number if engines determine the flight path. He’ll prob go the very long way around. Never be more than 200-300 miles or so from land.
This. He won’t be flying clear across the Atlantic like a 747 would. That’s why it’s taking 40 days.
But props to him, it will be an amazing journey. Hope everything goes well for him.
