Somewhere along the Northern Gulf Coast of Florida.

My short list is eastern part of Kansas or Oklahoma, Northern Alabama, Texas west of Ft Worth

Everyone here shits on it but Kansas. Wife has family there, much more homogenous population, people are kinder and harder working. There, or Spain/Portugal

Honestly, anywhere other than Beaumont, TX and Jackson, MS would probably be an upgrade, city wise.

Costa Rica if the conditions don't drastically change in the next 15 years.

Eastern Oklahoma or Western Arkansas.

Probably Charleston or Savannah. Felt at home in both places while passing through in the past. Have never been to the Eastern Shore of Maryland, but the smaller towns on the Chesapeake intrigue me. Don’t like cold, so not too far north. It would be nice to be close enough to the Imperial Capital to pop in regularly to take a gander at the museums our taxes help fund. If staying in state, one of the charming towns of St. Tammany would do for me.

I’ve moved close to NOVA/Richmond area and have absolutely loved it. I come back to BR frequently to visit family and it feels like I’ve gone back in time 20 years

Virginia (not NOVA). Also, NOVA is not near Richmond.

Left Baton Rouge for a job in SW Florida almost 9 years ago. Came here, sight unseen.
I posted a thread asking if I should move to Naples, FL or the Woodlands and everyone was 100% FL, from what I recall.
I am less than 10 minutes from the beach, have weathered two incredibly intense hurricanes (Irma & Ian), have a great job, in a place where there aren't many jobs, outside of seasonal work.
The food is not terrific (they cater to snowbirds), but there is hardly any crime. We are in a radius that lets us go to Miami, Sarasota, Tampa & Orlando for concerts, professional sports, amusement parks. My husband and I can hop on a ferry in Frt. Myers and be in Key West in 3 hours.
Every place has its up & downs, but the last time I was in Baton Rouge, for a funeral, it was appalling. I grew up near Redemptorist, so the funeral was at St. Gerard, on Plank Rd. across from Tony's seafood. What was once home, looked like a war-zone.
Back to the original question, Sarasota might be our retirement spot, if we leave here.

Scotland. Beautiful place. It is end of July and the high temp is still in 60s.

yall can just say you dont want to live near black people.
Posters have listed many reasons they are unhappy with the current situation in Louisiana. You make it about black people. Are you saying that black people and shithole areas are synonymous with each other?

Ouachita Mountains in Arkansas anywhere from Mena to Hot Springs. I know Arkansas gets a bad rap sometimes but it’s an absolutely beautiful state.

I’m here right now. It is a cool little town (Old Town). It is miserably hot here, don’t know if it’s normal, or just part of the heatwave going on. I was hoping it would be a little cooler with the breeze coming off the coast.
This would be a great little town to live in after retirement. Seems like 80% of the people that live here are from New Orleans.
