I travel all about the country for work. I fully understand there are "better" places than here. Yet I choose to live in Louisiana. It's not job based. We could do our jobs from anywhere. It's just that I like to see homos naked. What I mean is, home is where you make it. This shithole is home.

To answer the question I would consider living in Western NC or the Low Country. Probably nowhere else

I bought a house recently in Texas and I will be moving there in about 1 year. Sick of the crimminal, corrupt & socialist cesspool of New Orleans.

The biggest issue foe me is space. Even if I sold the tractor and implements, I have too many toys. A 5th wheel, 2 trailers, a boat, 2 jet skis, a 4 wheeler and a side by side.

Bingo.

My great uncle has 500 acres right past me. He refuses to sell.

His son is a druggie. His daughters all live in other states.

When he's gone, my only chance of affording it is if he makes it another 10ish years.

Lexington is great for about three weeks in April and for about three weeks in October.

That is if you like horse racing, which we can take it or leave it. For us, it’s about a safe place to raise a family, affordability, and my job opportunity. Beautiful horse farms sitting on bluegrass covered hills. The weather doesn’t get over 90 degrees any more than maybe 30 days out of the year. Schools are about equivalent or better than Zachary, LA (idk if it’s still reputable, but it was when I lived in BR 10 years ago). Rupp Arena has good shows where we saw Justin Timberlake and lil Wayne. Comedians love coming to Comedy off Broadway (blue city in a red state, the audience can take a joke).

If we are bored in Lexington, there is so much to do around us. It’s nothing to get in our car and drive to Cincinnati, Columbus, Nashville, Chicago, Atlanta, Asheville, Knoxville, Charleston, even Louisville has some things to do. It’s cheaper to fly to Florida panhandle or Hilton Head than to drive to most of these cities I named.

We like living in a peaceful midsized city (300k+), that is constantly improving. We don’t want to live somewhere we like to escape to; that defeats the purpose. We don’t want everything I named in the OP that BR offers.

Since you sound like a glass half empty kind of guy, I’m sure you’d have a pessimistic list of any place you’d live after awhile. I choose to take the opposite road. There is plenty of good things here. Challenge yourself to find them and appreciate them.

Im definitely a glass half empty kind of guy. That doesnt change my desire to leave Louisiana for greener pastures. Ive been here almost 50 years. Ive done all of the things you can do here. Ive found that I enjoy the mountains, backpacking, fly fishing, hell almost anything else, more than I love LSU sports and Grand Isle.

Whats kept me here is family and career. The glass half full guy knows that I will never be paid more for my profession than in LA. But that wont matter when I retire

Don't know yet, but likely Florida or Colorado, depending on which state is the least fricked up in ten years.

I went to Oklahoma. I don’t recommend it, but it is still much better than Louisiana.

If I were to do it all again, it would probably be Colorado or Texas. Maybe Utah, Washington. Possibly Nevada. I haven’t decided if I’m too old for the big city hustle and bustle yet

I moved from New Orleans to Utah 3 yrs ago. Would recommend. Sure I miss the food and energy of New Orleans, but Utah is better for this phase of live.

But if I’m a young buck, I’m taking NOLA over Utah 10/10

2 weeks ago I told my wife we should start thinking about an exit strategy. I would like to stay within reasonable driving distance of our hunting camp near Bay Springs, MS. Preliminary thoughts were Brandon, MS, Tuscaloosa, or Pensacola (on the far range).

What I find interesting about this thread is the lack of Powers Booth "Well, Bye" memes or gifs that you always saw on the OT when this topic was brought up. That tells me there is a paradigm shift going on and lawfully abiding Louisiana residents are now fed up and it's become real. The shitholeness is finally reality.

I'd move to south Florida or Lake of the Ozarks tomorrow if I could. I need water front living with a nice powerboat scene.

Or iterations of this thread are played out and it’s just people jerking each other off about whatever less black mediocre town they moved to.

We moved to Lexington, KY. Best kept secret in the country for places to live. Centrally located to so many great cities that we can drive to. Weather is phenomenal. We will spend the rest of our lives here.

Lexington is a gem. We are lucky. Shhh....keep it quiet
