Are y'all sure San Diego is all that? I watch California Insider show from time to time and he shits on the present state of SD from its unaffordable housing to growing homeless encampments to burglary, local politics etc. Not sure the SD from 5 yrs ago is the same one today...caveat emptor.

It wouldn’t be anywhere in Cali. Pretty place to visit.
Colorado close choice but I’d get tired of winters.
Me prob mid size or smaller city in TX or FL

It's not, but it's 72 and sunny all year long, and Louisiana is like living inside of wet sweat rag 90% of the time. I've been muggled by homeless people and shot at multiple times in South Louisiana over the last couple years. Could it really be THAT much worse? This summer is absolutely f&%king miserable, and I'm sick of it. There aren't economic opportunities here any more. The entire region is dying. I feel like I have to emigrate or die. It'd be nice to live in a place where I don't feel like the sun is trying to kill me and that I need to spend all of my time from late may until October in doors.

I like the change in seasons. I think my ideal place would have roughly 3 months of each.

Western Arkansas is definitely a pretty place, and some really good outdoor opportunities. Closest place to escape the flat land to Louisiana. It was our escape when I lived there.

F&%k seasons. I'd rather be able to be outside for more than 10 minutes without sweating through my clothes, and I don't want to have to defrost my car before I can leave for work in the mornings. The only reason I look forward to certain seasons is because the weather the rest of the year is so goddamn abysmal.

Me either. It’s called garage parking and working from home.

Coastal Oregon or some place like that has about my ideal weather. Average temps range between about 32-85 all year.

We moved to Lexington, KY.
Wife and I recently visited friends in Lexington and Louisville and we both said we wouldn’t mind living in either place. Both clean. Experience four seasons. Decent schools and like you said, access to a lot of great cities.

Every time these types of threads pop up, all logic is tossed to the wind. Posters are never realistic and never weigh normal factors like family proximity. They always just throw some fantasy land answers like Oregon or San Diego.
Realistically to people with family in South Louisiana means relocating to Houston or Dallas, coastal Mississippi, Alabama or the north western Florida.

As someone who moved back to Louisiana for family, this shouldn’t really be a factor. Family eventually gets used to you being back home. Live where you want to live. Family will move away, pass away or you may have a falling out. Who knows. But if you move back JUST for family, you’ll end up in a place you’ll be miserable at once they’re gone or once you’re not as close. It happens eventually even to families that are close and both my wife and I are close and have good relationships with our families
But we also realize how bad things are in LA and we want to end up living in a place we will be happy with 20-30 years from now when our parents are gone and siblings and kids have moved away. We also want to live in a place where our kids WANT to come back and visit.

All the little towns up and down their coast are pretty awesome. Were it not for the government, there or Bend would be almost ideal places to be.

Won’t even say where I really live because I don’t want any Louisiana people moving here. But you’ll never meet someone who left and regretted it. Louisiana will never get better. Time to move is now. Make your parents move too if you have to. But don’t live in a miserable place because you grew up there.

You don't think plenty of people from LA move to other areas like Tennessee, North Carolina, Colorado etc?

I hear you but this one feels different. In the past I agree that unrealistic expectations were thrown around, but there are 10 pages here that have a very consistent, uniform theme to it. The real test is when football gets here and the weather cools off, will this topic be out of sight out of mind, or does the feeling of moving out of La persist? I am in agreement with Kingbob and others, the opportunities have been sucked dry from this shithole state and the other culture is getting worse...much worse.

My older sister left LA for California right after college never to return other than for visits.
I have friends that I grew up with living in Massachusetts, Arizona, Oregon, Tennessee and North Carolina.

Come on up to Tennessee. There's room.

In Missouri around Springfield, or maybe Knoxville,TN. Preferably on a decent lake. Somewhere close to a mountain range where it doesn't get too hot in the summer and it gets cold in the winter, but snow won't stay on the ground for 10 days at a time. My kids are in private school, I don't know if I would change that, but a change in scenery would be cool. Somewhere on the outskirts of a city, much like Central is to Baton Rouge.
