I kind of agree. My problem isn't so much about the being close to family issue that was referenced(althought that is one for me), it's about the lack of good paying jobs for most in these areas that are listed for the most part. I guess many are thinking of retirement locations.

I have lived in several locations around the country over my career. No matter how nice the city or town, there has always been some part of me that missed home. When I retire in a few years I plan to move back to Louisiana.

Too effing cold

I like the cold. But it will never become overpopulated because of this. Not enough people can handle the winters. But i’ll take summer temps like this any day of week

Left Louisiana and lived in Asheville, Franklin, TN. and now between Denver and Boulder. Loved them all. I don’t see myself moving anytime soon, at least till the kids are a few years out of the house. All upgrades.

Possibly Arkansas.

I’ve spent a year of my life TDY to Little Rock and firmly believe Arkansas is ridiculously underrated. The northern half of that state is an untapped paradise. If you enjoy hunting, fishing, or just being outdoors; it has so much to offer. Beautiful state.

//break break//

I was born and raised in Louisiana, left when I was 25. I’ve ended up in Auburn, AL now(commute to work in Atlanta) and really like it. Alabama has a lot to offer. The schools are great in Auburn, plenty of opportunities for hunting and fishing. Hate paying taxes, but I actually feel like I’m getting something in return as opposed to Louisiana. My kids will have job opportunities in state in something other than oil and gas(not dogging you baws). Ultimately, Louisiana just never had much to offer me career wise and I want to live somewhere my kids hopefully won’t want to move away from.

I am still grappling with the fact at least one of my children will go to Aubie.

You commute 220 miles per day?

Also, NOVA is not near Richmond.

It’s pretty darn close. Spotslvania is about a 45 min drive from Richmond and is on the southern edge of NOVA. It’s is crazy how much of a culture shift there is between Richmond, Fredericksburg, and Fairfax county though

Partially retired with 6 kids and grandkids. We have the means to move just about anywhere we want. But our family is our happiness, we will not move.

My top three areas right now:

1) Hill Country, TX
2) Northern AZ/Southern UT - I love the idea of living in St. George
3) Northeastern TN

I don’t want to live anywhere that has more than 100K people in it.

Hell no, I only make 1-2 round trips a week. It's 92 miles one way from my house. I would live in Newnan or Peachtree city if I had to do it daily. Should have specified.

Just go ahead and move. I’ve been all over this nation and world and … newsflash … nowhere is perfect! This state has enough negativity already. If all you want to do is be an internet badass and OT Baller wanna be, just pick up your crap and leave. We don’t need your energy. I’ll stay and be part of the solution. Let us know when it’s good enough for you to move back.

Good luck.

How is anyone going to fix New Orleans or Baton Rouge short of a complete miracle change in voting demographics?

Absolutely. We have 20s and 30s in the winter, not bitter but its enough to keep out most of the long term riff raff.

I love the isolation, still a decent size town/city but no outside access unless you money to fly or float.

If the shite ever hits the fan, this will be one of the more desirable locations as you can still live self sufficiently, with little competition.

Might sound crazy to some of you, but with my job I got to spend some time in Southern Indiana and North Central Kentucky. The area along the Ohio River around Owenhoro and Evansville. It's beautiful country, pretty hilly, affordable, mostly low crime, and appealing demographics. A lot of nice small towns.

I lived in NW Ohio for 10 years. The winters do suck but the falls are awesome and it was a pleasant place to live.
