Just curious how does a spillway fisherman suffer more? I agree there should be more people involved that dictate the price. There should be a true board with a variety of people. Such as strictly a farmer, a buyer/wholesaler, a guy on the peeling side, and a guy on the restaurant side that way everyone has a representative on their side.

I don’t get it with the high prices this year if they move their entire catch money wise it should be damn near a wash for them as prices are triple the price so in theory they only need to move 1/3 of the product to make similar profits

One of them has a gang of Mexicans in the back peeling them for him and selling them to Walmart. As I understand it. Pretty nice cold storage site if I do say so myself.

I’ve always said if crawfish are too high to buy don’t buy them, wait for the prices to come down. The thing y’all don’t seem to understand is, if producers don’t survive this season they won’t be another season for some of them. Then they’ll be less crawfish on the market next season.

Meh. It’s crawfish. Not an actual sustenance crop. Where there is demand, supply will develop.

To bad time for everyone to tighten their belts including the government. Hell we subsidize the bastards enough for them to take the subsidy and sell their goods to foreign countries

This. If you want them bad enough, you can go catch them for practically free.

Completely fine to think. On the other hand earlier this season people on this board were bitching about Texas getting all the crawfish, with that mindset Texas will continue to take the supply.

So all of these supply and demand deniers have been right all along?

How were they right? Supply is at an all time low.

Calling it a loss this year will end the crawfish industry as you know it. You think prices are bad now? They’ll be a fraction of crawfish producers survive if this season continues like it is. Less producers means less supply, and the demand is only going to get higher which means prices will stay higher than what we are used to. Be careful what you ask for

If the price rises too high then demand will drop. Keep govt out of it.

Do you understand the money crawfish generates for Tourism?

A set of three men deciding the price is literally the definition of free market, correct? What if a guy wanted to sell lower for whatever the reason? What if one guy had a bumper yield two weeks prior to the big 3? He is beholden to an artificial price?

These three guys are wholesalers I’m pretty sure, they want the price as low as they can to move more volume. They might crawfish but their business is moving crawfish.
