What candidate is Louisiana going to put up there that will be legitimately making changes? Louisiana politics is an endless black hole controlled by the machine. Always has been. Always will be. It will never be like any other states. It lives and dies on nepotism, back door deals, favors and blatant corruption. Don’t waste your time. Deal with it or leave like many do
This right here. Louisiana politics is in a league of its own in terms of corruption. There’s no fixing it.

They eliminated a paid lunch break. No problem. I didn’t get paid to eat lunch as an hourly employee.
They can still take a lunch break.

It was a mandatory UNPAID 30 minute break. A waste of time for kids that WANT to work and very difficult for employers to manage.
An unpaid employee break of 29 minutes is a fine able offense to the business.

It was a mandatory twenty minute paid break.

No.

This interval shall be thirty minutes. If the length of the meal break is at least twenty minutes, the difference between the actual break time and the required thirty-minute break time shall be considered de minimis, and shall not be considered a violation of this Section.

I mean, studies have shown that teens who have lunch breaks are more likely to be satisfied with their jobs and perform it to their highest abilities.

It’s not a ‘lunch break’, but a mandatory ‘break time’ off the clock. It used to suck when I worked at the ball field and the game went in to extra innings. I’d have to remember to go clock out for 15 minutes, then clock back in for another hour. It was a stupid arse law.
Side note- my 16 year old routinely works 6-7 hours in a shift, and has never clocked out to my knowledge

This La legislature is really tackling the problems that plague the state

Working a summertime manual labor job +8 hours a day with unpaid 30 minute lunch break put hair on my chest as a teenager.
Politicians shouldn’t make that illegal.

I was wrong.

They are right. I hear teens constantly complaining about having to take a lunch break. Nobody likes to be forced into that!

No. It makes it at the employers discretion. You change child labor laws so that employers can force them to work 8 hour shifts with no breaks, and you are begging labor unions into your fricked up state.

That goes back to federal labor law. Any break of 20 minutes or less must be paid.

Makes sense, honestly. When I used to wait tables on a breakfast shift, we were required to have a break on every shift.
In practice this meant I had to sit around for 30 minutes after the breakfast rush before clocking out to go home. So dumb.

Article is behind a paywall, so how about a summary or excerpt for those of us who don’t pay for that shitrag of a website?
But LA has some stupidity in child labor laws these days. When school is in session, a 15 year old can only work 3 hour max shifts and have to be off work by 7pm. Really limits the places that a kid can get hired at with those restrictions. Especially when clocking out at 7:02 or having worked 3 hours and 1 minute that day becomes a fineable offense for the business. I’m not saying they should have high school kids working long hours or until 11pm, but current laws limit kids who actually want to work and save for a car or something. And deters businesses from hiring them.
I got my first job at 15 to save for a car by bussing tables. I wouldn’t have been able to have that job at 15 with today’s hour restrictions because dinner shift started at 5 and we didn’t close until 9 on weekdays and 10 on Friday and Saturday.

Exactly. The libtards around here want to make it sound like we are enslaving children, just so they can paint Landry a fascist like they want everyone to believe.
Pathetic.

Landry's not a fascist, just a pandering hack.
