Welp. Guess I’m running 5 miles through my front yard Tuesday

also... it's colder in central Texas than in Alaska

I was waiting on this one. It seems with every Arctic blast it happens.

getting some rain/sleet mix now... some of the hardest of the day though it's still very light for now

Whenever you're ready, baw. Be careful, though. A bare foot doesn't have any friction on ice.

I’m no Fishfighter, but here’s what’s happening in nWBR/PC...steady wind, low hanging clouds, colder than a well-diggers arse, but no precip. Looks like great duck hunting weather. Way too late

This isn't a surprise to Houston. Why are so damn many people out on a Sunday night?

We are officially underway. Light freezing rain and sleet is falling in patches around the area. This is just the lead in to an impressive winter storm. This is unprecedented in my 19 years of forecasting down here. The moisture, dynamics, and extreme cold are a rare combination that might not be seen again for many years. Or on Wednesday, but we’ll deal with that later. The reason I mention the incredible rarity of this combination of factors is that I have very little past experience on a system like this in our area. So precipitation type is going to not be a fun forecast. There are several factors at play, and when you get heavy precipitation and thunderstorms when it’s 22-26 degrees, things get weird. Here is my parish by parish update. Spoiler alert, it hasn’t changed. There will be a 3-6 hour window where most of this falls. You should already be off the roads, but from 3:00 to 10:00 AM, we are going to see one heck of a winter blast sweep across the area.

Rapides… 1/4 - 3/4 inch of freezing rain. 1-4 inches of sleet and snow.
Vernon… 1/4 - 3/4 inch of freezing rain. 1-4 inches of sleet and snow.
Avoyelles… 1/4 - 3/4 inch of freezing rain. 1-3 inches of sleet and snow.
Grant… 1/4 - 1/2 inch of freezing rain. 1-4 inches of sleet and snow.
Sabine… 1/4 - 1/2 inch of freezing rain. 2-6 inches of sleet and snow.
Natchitoches… 1/4 - 1/2 inch of freezing rain. 2-5 inches of sleet and snow.
Winn… 1/4 - 1/2 inch of freezing rain. 2-5 inches of sleet and snow.
LaSalle… 1/4 - 3/4 inch of freezing rain. 1-4 inches of sleet and snow.
Catahoula… 1/4 - 3/4 inch of freezing rain. 1-4 inches of sleet and snow.
Concordia… 1/4 - 3/4 inch of freezing rain. 1-4 inches of sleet and snow.
Beauregard… 1/4 - 3/4 inch of freezing rain. 1-3 inches of sleet and snow.
Allen… 1/4 - 3/4 inch of freezing rain. 1-3 inches of sleet and snow.
Evangeline… 1/4 - 3/4 inch of freezing rain. 1-3 inches of sleet and snow.
St. Landry… 1/4 - 3/4 inch of freezing rain. 1-3 inches of sleet and snow.
Tensas... 1/4-3/4 inch of freezing rain. 1-4 inches of sleet and snow
Caldwell...1/4-1/2 inch of freezing rain. 1-4 inches of sleet and snow.

After this, lows will likely fall below 10 degrees in many areas tomorrow night, especially north of a Leesville to Alexandria to Natchez MS line. If we clear out, some areas could drop to near zero degrees in our northern parishes. On Wednesday, another storm heads this way. With extensive ice and snow pack, I feel models are a little warm, but they are still a close call for another round of heavy freezing rain. Let’s take this first storm, see what happens, and figure out the next one tomorrow afternoon, once we see how much ice and snow falls from this one. What a week.

If what came through North Dallas comes through there it will get heavy, we were real light with the grass barely covered until about 4-5 pm.

Then the big shite hit and we had near blizzard conditions for a while, probably 4 " accumulation in four hours.

And it's still snowing

I'll be tired of it by tomorrow at lunch
