We CANT forget the huge increase to state coffers when we all started paying sales tax on online purchases. Then in a few short years Landry has to increase the RATE as well. Screw these tax and spend M’fers. We are outta here !

Moved to Ky and one thing I don’t like is paying property tax on things that were paid for long ago. For example: 250$ property tax this year for a 10 year old truck.

If we're going to have taxes, you have to be a complete retard to bitch about sales tax and not point out our lower income tax.

Good job, OP. You're dumb.

This is demonstrably false. You need to stop believing everything the oligarchs tells you.

A poor family barely getting by on a their salaries pays sales taxes on every penny they own, because they must spend it to survive. Meanwhile, the rich may only spend 5% of their income in a given year, thus their tax rate is 20 times lower than that of the poor family

And unlike other states with high sales taxes, we also have a state income tax.

But very little property tax. They are trying to eliminate the state income, but LA needs a DOGE cleanup.

So saving money because you can should be penalized? Why?

Never thought Louisiana would have higher taxes than Illinois.

When you start looking at all the other taxes and fees (property, real estate transfer, state income, city sticker, cigs/alcohol, grocery bag, gas tax, amusement tax, road tolls, etc etc) I’m sure Illinois is well ahead. The list is honestly too long to post.

But look at Oregon up there with no sales tax. Pretty odd for that commie state.

Probably because it’s a tax that affects everyone and they want to be able to target “the rich”.

You need to quit buying into class warfare and thinking the problem is the upper middle class/upper class.

I want fewer taxes, not more, but the theory is sales tax is more evenly applied than progressive income taxes that penalize success. A man, regardless of who he is pays 10% on each purchase.

Yes, I understand that it’s not business friendly, but neither is payroll tax, SS contributions, and many more.

With sales taxes, people see the impact of the taxes on each purchase unlike an income tax that is withheld from a direct deposit or a property tax that is automatically applied and calculated on an automatic withdrawal for a mortgage.

I wish zero taxes were ever withheld from pay stubs, on mortgages, on anything and at the end of the year everyone had to write a check for the taxes they owed.

Get rid of the homestead exemption and we can lower those a bit.

I'm sorry, what? At least everyone gets to enjoy sales taxes. Why increase taxing something you've already bought year after year? Property taxes are already a ludicrous idea. Yet you want more.

Saw this coming from a mile away. Dude is a typical Louisiana fraud politician. There’s no such thing as a true Louisiana republican governor. Just guys exploiting power. They’re all the same.

In Texas, Let’s welcome another wave of people fleeing Louisiana’s bullshite. It’s gotten to where it’s almost more common to meet a person originally from Louisiana than originally from Texas. In Houston area at least. I’m all for it. All the Louisiana transplants are helping us keep that southern vibe opposed to that California vibe.

Texas taxes are high of course but over here we at least feel pretty comfortable knowing where the revenue is being spent. Just look at the public services. It’s plain to see.

I say this all the time. When I was self-employed and had to physically write checks for my taxes, it was an eye opening experience. That freaking hurts!! It becomes "real" money. Hard to explain unless you've done it.

Also, nobody looks at the back of their tax bill. You need to see EXACTLY - in dollars/cents - how much money you're giving to your parish allocations annually.

FICA is not a state tax
