that is the most comprehensive article I have seen on this project. looks like it is a full go, but time will be sucked up as the oyster fisherman beg for more money.

i have been helping with the specifications on this project for years. fed government is glacially slow.

Injunctions and lawsuits will slow it down no doubt.

Have one of those B-2s fly 5 miles out of Belle chase base and drop some ordinance just north of Jesuit Bend and save $2.99 Billion

Exactly. But the oyster fisherman are the only ones pushing back against this. "Not in my honeyhole!"

They're willing to sacrifice their great-grandchildren's future for their own.

They been fighting stuff like this since the 90s. That is also when this should of been done. I think it's almost to late now, it would need a lot of years with no hurricane hits to accomplish something. Where the Wax comes out at has built up land but it has also taken a long time. We did have land between Lafitte and Grand Isle and most of it is gone now.

The engineering design challenge is to determine the correct channel geometry to maintain water velocity through the channel so the sediments settle sufficiently downstream of the channel to minimize dredging maintenance.

And what to do at the termination of the channel. Not a fan of these type of projects but will be interesting to follow.

Out of curiosity, why?

We see what is happening in the wax lake delta with land gain there. If these diversions can mimic that process this is the best chance the state has to stop the current rate of land loss.

From the image, it looks like they should have a few of these on Hwy 23 and then look what can be done near Lafitte and LA 1 to help those areas out.

I don’t know all of the logistics and what not, but I wish they’d do something to the other side as well.

It seems like Reggio and Delacroix is disappearing by the day. Places we used to duck hunt in small pot holes are just huge areas of open water now.

It’s crazy how much has disappeared in the last 15 years.

Watched the PBS special on this last night. I think they're looking a little further north for others. Like the Manchac Swamp area.

I believe the current plan is to start mobilizing later in the spring. That’s what AWA is planning for, at least.

It’s honestly surprising that the litigation hasn’t started yet. My current best guess is that the final NFWF funding agreement will be the catalyst for it to kick off. Who knows how receptive the courts will be—the state is in a weird spot with the Lt Governor opposing the project. Most of the rest of the State Gov and fedgov support the project.

I do know that most of the final boxes are being checked over the course of this month. Depending on who you’re with, it should be heating up for you in the next six weeks.
