Ok, hospitalizations aren't a preceding indicator?
This, of course, is the very crux of the issue we are trying to nail down.
It is interesting if what was said previously about bed capacity was true. If hospital budgets are designed to run at a percentage of capacity, it would make sense they were well below that number at the corona hospitalization trough last month. So, it stands to reason, they may be more welcoming of new hospitalizations (say, for relatively minor cases) than they were in Mar/Apr/May when it was predicted the hospitals would be overrun.
This could mean we may see an uptick in deaths, but it will not correlate in trajectory to the uptick in hospitalization.

Areas that weren’t hit earlier are now getting it and vice versa. Similar pattern across the country.
Which paints how idiotic closing entire states because localized hot beds was

Cases have been spiking for three weeks now, and we are still at a 10 day rolling average of 14.8 deaths a day
Peak for us was 64.4 deaths per day. So, when will you admit the deaths arent going to spike again? In 4 weeks? 6 weeks? 6 years? Or will you continue to increase your "lag"?

This is a major leap. The undertone in healthcare facilities has been and still is to part with positive cases however and whenever possible. Hell, it’s been extremely difficult to hammer down potential placement for our inevitable positives outside of hospital admit and that’s only because they can’t turn them away. Welcoming? lol, no.

Only 5.7% positive.
OPEN IT ALL BACK UP.
Unfortunately, I think the requirements are decreasing cases AND % positive.

I wonder what the fatality rate for hospitalizations is? Does anyone know what % walk out of the hospital?

Definitely stands to reason that. It is speculation still.
Not sure why they decided to do this two weeks after phase 2 opened.

Agree the approach should be on affected area. No way should you hold down an unaffected area. Because they will have to be held down then and AGAIN when their area is affected.
Figure out what is causing the increases in Laffayette, Lake Charles, Shreveport. Maybe make a little adjustment there (be it bars, casinos, whatever) and leave other areas alone.

I'm not sure they will or won't spike. Saying definitely one way or the other is just guessing at this point.
Definitely think deaths will trend up, logically it makes sense. No idea on the timeline, we haven't even pinpointed when the first people in the area because infected with the virus.

WHY DO YOU VALUE MONEY OVER LIVES WITH THAT SENSIBLE AND NUANCED TAKE!?!?!? DON’T YOU KNOW HOW MUCH FEDERAL MONEY WE ARE MISSING OUT ON?!?!?!?

Hospitalization does not equal serious or critical. They could be there for lighter symptoms / observation.
Or, you know, go to the hospital for something totally unrelated and test positive once there.

Don't think you would be able to calculate based on public info. You know how many people died with COVID. But there is nothing that says how many of them were in a hospital, or how many total patients were in a hospital over a specific time frame

How are hospital numbers a joke? Seems serious

I dont think they're putting people on ventilators as much now as they were in the spring. They didn't prove that helpful.

You are going to have a hip replacement & get tested at admittance
You test positive but have no fever & no symptoms
They proceed with surgery, you stay the night because it’s not an outpatient surgery
You are a Covid hospitalization
Some are very serious but without knowing if a person is hospitalized or dies WITH Covid or FROM Covid we don’t have true data

Just because someone goes to the hospital for a broken leg and happens to have COVID doesn't necessarily meant that person is in the hospital for COVID but they will use him as a COVID stat...its a joke

Sadly I don’t think we will ever know the difference between the 2
