You're correct. There was an error in my formula.

How long should we keep it up to keep numbers low?

That is the question of our lifetime. Noone has the exact correct answer for that and there will be billions of opinions at the end of this.

ETA: It's possible these vents were reallocated to other regions.

Certain states/regions probably can 're-open.' The aggressive measures should contain this virus to a few localized epicenters like New York. Now, instead of dozens of states needing massive amounts of protective equipment, only a handful will. Also you can sub in doctors/nurses from other states to relieve overworked doctors/nurses/etc. in the hardest hit regions.

Specific to Louisiana, Mardi Gras was obviously the trigger. By now most of those cases have resolved and the exponential spread has seemingly been contained.

This is about the time that we begin to see the effectiveness of the stay home order. And this looks very promising.

there's an old saying... "you can't ventilate the dead"

My grandpa used to say that every day. I once asked him why, and he said he didn’t really know. Said it was just something he picked up from his grandpa. I bet it goes back as far as using “tump” as a verb.

So a bunch of people came off vents in Region 1 and the machines were shipped to other parts of the state?

Do we know how much lack of reporting from nursing homes is affecting this? Forgot which days they said they would report.

It's quite possible. There were large increases in the number of vents in other regions.
