They seem like completely normal people. The woman touched a seal. Maybe it’s me, but that alters my internet opinion on them by zero points

Agreed. Fine them $200, tell them why they f'ed up and let's move on. Not everything has to be a travesty these days.

People that approach animals in the wild like this deserve whatever happens to them. Wild animals are not something to frick with.

I don't equate approaching a seal on the beach the same as approaching a bison at Yellowstone or something like that.

I'm not saying she should have done it, but there are varying degrees of idiocy and this is fairly low.

but how hard is it to abstain from touching a large wild seal??

How hard is it to abstain from touching anything?

Leave it the frick alone people. You don’t need to take a selfie with everyone/thing you see.

Social media is great at turning adults into impulsive children. I mean, she could've still had her selfie, and none of this would've blown up, but she just HAD to put her hand on it. She's lucky to only get a fine, and not a nub arm.

Just once we need someone to jump in and admit it was them. We already got pics of the wife, what's there to lose?

I absolutely would equate the two.

People are too sensitive. A simple apology should be enough to just move on with life. Nobody was harmed. Move on.

It was stupid, but no reason for the locals to get bent out of shape.

She is lucky she came away with all her fingers and toes. Seals can mess up a human if they get a hold of one.

That's what I am trying to figure out here. Why is this even a story? People go to another state our country and they are not aware of certain laws. She touched the monk seal, then later found out it was against the law.

A mistake was made, they apologized. I seriously doubt they meant any harm. Why is this even a story?

Because her dumbass posted it on TikTok Haha that is the distinguishing factor between a dumb, funny story/memory between you and your partner and maybe a few friends and family that you tell the story to, and the psychotic, rabid, unreasonable social media masses that can wreck your fricking life.

I know these people. They aren't bad people at all... This entire thing was overblown. They were getting death threats as people were spreading lies online about her slapping the seal, when she merely laid a hand on it for all of .2 seconds before it snapped at her.
