It's only worth $7,500 to $8,000. Don't do it.

Don't do it. The 3.8L is a POS.

Thanks all. I looked up KBB and the price fell within their range but was concerned about the motor in that year. It will be a weekend use car. I work from home permanently even before COVID and don’t drive much or that far.

I think its a solid price for a jeep with only 117k miles. My '07 4 door 3.8L made it to 275K miles before I started having expensive engine issues. These engines are tanks and have been used since late 90's. Yes they are under powered but reliability is there.
For what its worth I sold mine for $7,000 with a jacked up engine to a guy who was putting a V-8 engine in it.

At least we found the guy trying to sell you the Jeep.

The market for Vehicles is at a alltime high for used vehicles.
Until a crash comes or a adjustment the price my fluctuate by 10-15%
Jeeps, are hard to buy at auctions, Jeeps are hard to buy from dealers, They Cost money and hold their value, You are better off buying private.
You cant Tow with them, They dont ride nice and They get about as bad MPG as a truck. Its strictly a vanity vehicle, because most people dont use them for what they are designed for. But its a trendy and cool vehicle. So it has curb appeal, chick appeal, its got gay appeal, new car teenager appeal, Mid life crisis appeal.
When your buying a jeep, your buying into idealism of a vehicle that transends a market of people who identify with the toughness of a all terrain vehicle.
Which most of them are not or maybe once was.
Its your life, the price is the price, get it if it makes you happy and dont worry about being hosed here. You cant save on everything and you cant bring money with you when you die either.
What you will get with a jeep. The community of others behind the jeep, waves from cute chicks, but mostly dudes, compare it to growing a beard, everyone says its cool and trendy but you mostly get compliments/hit ons from dudes, not the young vibrant women in their 20s, with that "new car smell"
Also the death wobble.

Yikes I paid 10k for a 2015 4 door Jeep Wrangler Unlimited with 110k miles.
I understand what a good deal is, but that's a $25k-$30k vehicle. This is an outright lie.

Always wanted a Jeep, but when it was time to buy I have never been able to pull the trigger.
There are always newer 4x4 trucks with less miles and a V-8 for less money than the Jeeps. Add on the truck can tow/haul and it's just a no brainer for me.

The older engine with a stick is a dog. You have to shift all the time.
That engine needs an automatic transmission.... but unless you’re a college age girls an automatic in a Jeep just ain’t right

You couldn’t pay me to take a Chrysler product with over 100,000 miles off your hands

If it makes you feel any better, a buddy of mine put his 2 door 2008 JK w/around 115K miles, manual trans, and soft top up for sale for 16K on Facebook just to see what would happen. He had a buyer with 16K cash in hand the following week.

Jeeps really hold their value. I know some are saying that is too much but that is the market. I sold my 2004 Rubicon that was highly modified with 98K for $17.5K.
Yours has a six cylinder which is good. Stay away from the four cylinder jeeps. .

Forgive me for my ignorance on jeeps,

for the record I think they look pretty cool.

Do they have a reputation as lasting super long?
Love my 2016, 10k winch, jacked and on 35s. We have traveled on lots of trails in Az. & Utah + a few in Tx., New Mex., & Ark.

Seriously, buy a 12+. Everything about it is better. Better interior, better motor. Ideally one with 3.73 or bigger gears. You’ll be much happier.

What is the right engine? I thought the 4.0 was the best one?

I have a 2000 Wrangler with the V6. I have 250,000 miles on it. They ride rough, are loud, and not very comfortable on long drives, but I would shed a few tears if I ever sold it.
