12hrs in Dallas. Rented a car and drove in. Made it to BR 5 hours before the plane was supposed to board.

Longest flight delay you've experienced?
26 hours JFK. We were on a school trip to Europe and had a group of almost 40 ppl. There was weather in ATL so we were late getting to JFK and missed boarding our plane by 2 minutes. Our dumbass teacher that was in charge didn't want to split the group up but there was no way to get 40 ppl on the same flight. Finally after 12 hours, they finally got the teacher to consent to splitting the group up into 4 groups. There was not enough seats in coach on the flight from JFK to AMS that I was on so my brother my mom, and one of my friends got upgraded to first class.

It was going to be 24 hours for a flight from Austin to Houston the day that guy went into B terminal lobby at IAH and killed himself. I just walked back down to the car rental place and got a one way back to Houston.
I had a 4 hour delay on a different occasion, also AUS to IAH.
I had about 8 hours in a delta flight from TPA to IAH. Somehow, the US Airway flight that I was originally on but oversold, causing me to have to get on the delta flight, made it out on time. This was despite Delta assuring us it was a weather delay. Delta always finds that weather.

I sat on the tarmac for 3 hours in Charlotte, which was my destination, waiting for someone to come move a plane b/c all of the terminals had planes parked at them and it was 11 at night, so they had to wake up someone to come over, then prep the plane just to move it.
thought i was going to kill someone. Just let us off the damn plane and we'll walk.

I was in a different terminal at IAH that day. My colleague and I were trying to figure out why:
A. Our terminal was REALLY busy
B. There were heavily armed police wandering around
Finally looked at the news while in the security line.

San Juan, Puerto Rico. Continental flight was supposed to leave at 8am. Something was wrong with plane so the canceled the flight. Every other Continental flight that day was full. 10hrs later I leave on Delta.
I had a buddy in Denver on 9-11. By the time he realized air traffic was grounded for several days, all the rental cars were gone. The only way to get back to Louisiana was by bus. I think he got back 3 days later.

What an a-hole. Just kill yourself at home like a considerate crazy person.

Ithaca-DTW. On way back to Baton Rouge, was supposed to leave at 3:30pm, delayed due to maintenance, then snow, then de-icing, then snow plows on runway, then back to the terminal at 9pm. Got rebooked by 10pm for a 6am LGA-ATL-BTR, drove all night from Ithaca to Laguardia. Got back to BR around 10:30am, I was pissed

Getting out of the Vegas airport always seems to be a challenge the last 2 trips I've made there.

8 hours in Doha. Wasn't bad since I just went back to the member's lounge after we de-boarded. But to wait 8 hours BEFORE you get on your 16 hr flight sucked.

I got stuck in Dallas earlier this year and my flight was cancelled twice. Around 36 hours chilling outside the terminals.

Last flight for the night out of Tulsa to DFW got cancelled due to mechanical problems. Atleast the airline was nice enough to put us up in a hotel, give us food vouchers and book us on the first flight the next morning.

If anything, they should give everyone on that flight free booze.
probably not the best idea to give angry people booze.
when the carnival triumph got stranded at sea, they locked all booze up because for some people, booze makes them a happy drunk, for some people it causes angry drunk. i'm not taking that chance if i'm a service person in the travel industry.

Couple of hours on the tarmac in Atlanta caused me to miss a connecting flight and spend about 8 hours in the Atlanta airport.
I did have the very unfortunate experience of sitting next to someone who had a 3 day delay at LAX. That was not a pleasant flight to Houston.

12 hours in Atlanta, but that was due to the freeze in ATL last year so not airlines fault
