So keeping things half open for longer periods will help? What really is helping by shutting down restaurants and bars if people are still out and about. Kids are still at playgrounds that are not regularly cleaned, nail salons are open, etc. We need to pick one or another in my opinion. And yes I am a dumb female. I'm aware of that.

And here’s the kicker. We could be going right back to the lockdowns somewhere around September.

So what do you suggest we all do?

So our critical care bed capacity is supposed to remain completely unchanged? You know that's absolutely bullshite right? These graphs are guesses, and not good ones, without much solid data supporting them.

Every other news site I can find that's covering his interview this morning is saying that he said this stimulus action is meant to cover people for 10-12 weeks, not that he expects the shutdowns to continue for that long. Those two aren't necessarily the same thing.

I just listened to the actual interview, and the above is definitely what he said. OP is fake news, although he has an actual link and that site shouldn't be running fear mongering titles.

Side note, it's funny to me that Mcnuchin is claiming this package would cover people for that long given a shutdown scenario lasting even a few more weeks.

I’d rather we go to full open outside of major hot spots with limitations in place in hot spots. Strongly encourage older people to stay home. Knee capping small business and millions of Americans is not the answer.

I’m more and more convinced that a significant portion of our media needs to be shut down.

Let's just shut everything for 5 weeks.

You have no fricking clue what you are really advocating here. A total collapse and the Second Great Depression as mentioned earlier in this thread. A few deaths of compromised persons and elderly are not worth the total destruction of this country as we know it.

Total civil unrest and anarchy will be the outcome, not "over and done with it".

People need to calm down and stay home.

If you live in Southeast coastal areas you should have already been ready to be self reliant.

If the rushed University of Minnesota study on hydroxychloroquine shows it works it may be two weeks. Novartis already has a stockpile to provide treatment for a million people and they and many other manufacturers are set for more.

I'm wondering what restaurants and small businesses have enough to come back and survive?

Once society reopens, folks won't necessarily be beating down doorsv right away, it's gonna be a slow gradual arduous process to get back to where we were, and so many will suffer because of that

If only certain areas are facing huge breakouts, then the rest of the country can help and increase capacity where it’s needed. If 75%+ of hospitals in America, and around a lot of the world, are facing the same capacity issues at the same time then there isn’t a lot that can be done. That’s why it’s critical to get on top of it as early as possible and hope that we can contain it to just a few areas of bigger outbreaks where we can send reinforcements.

That graph was from a study that both our top government officials and the UK are looking to for guidance.

Ding ding ding. Imagine if we spent trillions of dollars on boosting capacity instead of an economic band aid.
