In a vacuum, sure. But the reality is that the bail bond lobby is one of the strongest and most aggressive lobbies in the state, as I’m sure you well know. You may only be the middle man, but you and yours vehemently attack any plan that would mean that we wouldn’t need a middleman as often, from non monetary bond for non violent offenders to allowing personal surety on partial deposit bonds. Because of said lobby, every judge I’ve ever worked with sets their bonds with the underlying theory that the individual will come up with 12% to a bondsman instead of making the full amount, which means the bond gets set roughly ten times higher than it should have been based on the factors outlined in the code of criminal procedure.

I have nothing against you personally; you might be a great guy. But the Louisiana bail bond industry is a toxic drain on this state whose only “utility” exists because of the absurd, bastardized system it fights so hard to maintain.
