Absolutely he is compromised. He's known Perkins for 20 years and they have been BOYS for that long. No doubt in my mind he doesn't know Perkins dirty secrets. When he's put on the spot and asks if he knew about this or other laws Perkins is guilty of breaking, he's gotta decide if its better for him to say yes and chunk his oath of office and his career right out the window, or say no and hope people believe that after this long he had no idea what a thug was in his employee and family. That's a stretch. He really had nothing to gain by having his truck and gun stolen. Im surely not defending the guy because he's a terrible administrator whose goose is cooked at this point. The keypad in that series of F250 was well known to have a flaw that made it easy to gain entry. They may have been looking to just steal stuff and realized the key was inside.

i don't think many, if any, people think Ard knew about the molestation

however, i will guarantee you Ard and MANY others knew of terrible, likely illegal, behavior of Perkins and covered it up

That's the difference. Ard, as Sheriff, doesn't need a unanimous jury and a 'beyond reasonable doubt' prosecution. All he needs a single reason to believe Perkins, or any deputy for that matter, could potentially become a liability for the agency. Once he has that belief, he owes it to the people of the parish to terminate that guy. He knows Perkins has given him ample evidence to warrant termination especially given that the sheriff's office offers no civil service protection for deputies. I guarantee you that dude isn't sleeping well since the arrest and I agree, no way to recover from this.
