re: Living in San Diego

I've never actually been to Kristy's. I've just heard a lot about it from here and from friends from LA that used to live there.

Visiting here is different than living here

I live in San Diego. Lots of things drive me nuts but its not terrible.

Visitors and residents here will have in common seeing lots of homeless people and bums, as well as having to deal with panhandlers of all sorts in all places. I've been panhandled inside grocery stores, while putting gas in my car, in parking lots, on sidewalks, at intersections, exit ramps, stop signs, beaches, you name it

Gulf coast beaches are better no question.

I lived there for 3 months at MCRD.

It was beautiful. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner were provided daily. The sound of commercial airliners taking off or landing every 12-17 minutes will serenade you to sleep each night, or gently wake you in morning.

Could be worse.
Could be raining.

I was there about 7 years ago and the only really vivid memory I have is the weather. You know those three weeks in the fall and spring in Louisiana when it's 55-60 at night and 75-80 degrees during the day with a slight breeze, there are no clouds in the sky, there's low humidity, and the sky is that deep cobalt blue color we only get around here on a clear winter day instead of the grey skies we get during oppressive heat?

It's like that EVERY. SINGLE. DAY. It as as perfect a climate I've ever been in. Bonus points was that we were staying on the northern side of town and could hear the Marines at Pendleton playing with their loud toys sometimes.

I'm here, baw.

The females are lovely and so is the weather.

I’ll have to remember. I’ll be out that way this summer.

I read the linked thread to the poli board. I’m sure a lot of what that guy said is true. Living in South Texas, I’m used to the Hispanic culture being everywhere. There’s usually multiple cultures in big cities anywhere.

As for the homeless issue and panhandling...I experienced that big time last summer when I was in Seattle and Vancouver. Hastings Street in downtown Vancouver was the worst I had ever seen...and it wasn’t too close.

I can’t imagine SD being any worse than that.

Unfortunately for me, I find all of these places to be nice overall, but could never afford to live there on a teacher’s salary.

I love San Diego. Little Italy and the gas light/lamp district are the bomb.

The coaster bar used to have great tacos for lunch.
