Considering taking an opportunity in Raleigh, NC. Is anyone from there or live there now that can provide pros or cons? I've read a bunch online but would prefer some first hand insight.

Edit: I should add, in BR now.

Thanks

I've never lived there but I spent several months working in Raleigh. Booming tech industry, four seasons, a couple hours from the beach and mountains. It would be a nice place to live.

I'm working a little north of there right now

I haven't been to Raleigh yet other than just driving through but I've been through Durham several times

Seems like a good area to me. I'd have no issue living there.

Also of note - Apple may be building their second headquarters near Cary, NC.

I'd have to think that would be a substantial boom to real estate there if it gets approved for construction.

A friend lives there now and loves it, the biggest complaint he has is buying chains for his tires and the cold weather.

Loves the schools, the weather (outside of winter) the stuff to do, etc... Says he will never come back to Louisiana

Really? Huh...interesting.

I lived in Charlotte for awhile, which is like 1 degree of latitude south of Raleigh, and I never had serious issues with snow.

Raleigh get some weird weather?

Chains on his tires? In NC?

Does he live on top of a mountain?

We get snow like twice a year and everyone stays home for the day and it’s usually melted by day 2.

I live about 15 miles south of Raleigh, it is a nice area. Been here 6 years and the area is booming.

If you are young and single downtown is an excellent area to live..plenty of breweries and restaurants. If you have a family there are plenty of options in the surrounding areas to live.

It’s not Atlanta or Charlotte as far as things to do but I can’t complain.

I think we got two or three snows last year. It doesn’t stay on the ground long at all. We did get a bad one several years ago that royally screwed up traffic though.

I almost accepted a job there in 2004. I probably would have if the job itself hadn't been sort of a dead end job for my career. The area was great. Really liked it and was very clean and nice looking. If the job is good I say go for it.

I was there last year and was surprised by how nice it is. Really liked the city. Chapel Hill and a number of the surrounding areas are beautiful too.

I had a job offer in Raleigh in 2006 or so. Wife shut it down because she found out that she was pregnant.

It's an area that we are considering when my kid finishes school. I'd prefer a little more seasonal weather than can be found in the deep South.

Relocated from Jackson, MS to Raleigh, NC 2 years ago. Shocked by the lack of Southern accents in my office. I think there are more Yankee accents than Southern accent where I work.
