I've lived in Raleigh for 20 years now. It's a great city. Low crime rate, no sketchy areas, and booming economy with a highly educated population. Apple is coming here and probably Amazon also, so real estate will boom even more than it already has. Weather is good, not a lot of snow. Maybe once or twice a year and rarely deep or lasting. Don't know what tard would buy snow chains as they're not needed.

Easy to get around, for now, but it's growing fast. Has grown a lot in my time here. Housing still relatively affordable, but getting less so daily. My only complaint is the food here is not as good as it should be. Lots of chain restaraunts. There are some good ones, but don't look for any decent seafood. It's non-existent.

I feel like NC is overran by yanks tho.
a steady flow from New York and other yankee States for 12 years. I have had school teachers tell me the yankee kids with attitudes are horrendous.

If you go to the coast head to topsail island, the other beaches are getting commercialized and crowded.

Visit the mountains of NC. Raleigh is better than Charlotte... try to live on the outskirts.

It is not southern. I can tell you that. I occasionally work in the region. Seems like New Jersey is supplying the transplants. They all complain about the taxes up north, but vote heavy blue. I don't get it.

From the plans I've seen and my previous experience in Holly Springs, it will be a positive trend.

The larger impacts would likely come from Amazon and/or Apple coming to the area.

Agree, but you can still get sweet tea, fried chicken and biscuits - Bojangles puts Popeye's to shame.

Check out Grandson's Country Buffet if you want to know what food heaven is like.

It seems like we only get a serious snow storm every 3 years or so. The rest of the time it's a dusting or some ice. The interesting thing is that they are extremely sensitive to any type of adverse winter weather and overly cautious when making decisions regarding schools.

Moved from Nola to Raleigh (Knightdale, specifically) in March. Haven't been through a full seasonal cycle yet but the parks, beer, and scenery are hard to beat. The museums and state parks are free. Just got an Alamo Drafthouse too.

Like someone else mentioned, it's very clean. It's a pretty long drive anywhere but the beltway is very quick for the most part. Tons of transplants, only met a handful of people born and raised here.

Saints bar is called Sharkys. Great comedy acts come through Goodnights if you're into stand up. I'm pretty far down in the thread but also down to answer any questions.

I live in Charlotte but Raleigh is similar in a lot of respects. My biggest concern is how cities like this will continue to deal with the growth.

Cities like Nashville and Austin get the hype, but Charlotte and Raleigh have grown basically at the same rate.

From my floor on the edge of Charlotte’s downtown (in a year old building) I count 11 construction cranes. I’ve been here 4 years and entire neighborhoods (like SouthEnd) are completely unrecognizable from when I moved here.

Home values have exploded. Inventory is crazy low and offering above asking is standard.

I worry about traffic and there eventually being somewhat of a bubble and value reset.

And with the tech jobs Raleigh growth will likely outpace Charlotte, which is tough to do

Lived there, it's a great place to live. Very pro business, loaded with science, healthcare and software industry, i.e. high paying jobs. Three hours to the mountains two and a half to the beach. Very clean, low crime..very low for population. Only thing that sucks is the traffic, but the roads are excellent.

Very clean area. I think the previous posters hit the important points. I visit about every 2 or 3 weeks for work and I am impressed each time I go. Not very much traffic for a city its size, decent food and it appears to have a very good quality of life. I hear housing costs have gone up substantially, so that may be something you may have to consider.
