Live in Charlotte but have been there numerous times. Raleigh is nice. I would say traffic is the biggest pain but its not like its LA traffic.

Relocated from Jackson, MS to Raleigh, NC 2 years ago. Shocked by the lack of Southern accents in my office. I think there are more Yankee accents than Southern accent where I work.
I'm a native of SC and have spent my entire life 25 minutes from NC. Crossing the state line is like crossing into a foreign country. SC is the Deep South, while the Research Triangle and Wilmington feel nothing like the South culturally.

I grew up in Cary.
Beautiful area with towering trees and 4 seasons. Booming with growth and the tech industry.
Not an awful lot to do though if you’re a young single dude in your 20’s. Raleigh has a great beer scene and you have the colleges but that’s really about it.

I live about 15 miles south of Raleigh, it is a nice area. Been here 6 years and the area is booming.
If you are young and single downtown is an excellent area to live..plenty of breweries and restaurants. If you have a family there are plenty of options in the surrounding areas to live.
It’s not Atlanta or Charlotte as far as things to do but I can’t complain.
I think we got two or three snows last year. It doesn’t stay on the ground long at all. We did get a bad one several years ago that royally screwed up traffic though.
same here i grew up in baton rouge and moved here last year. i bought a house 20 minutes south of Raleigh. if you have family there are tons of parks and outdoor activities. if you are single there are lots of things to to downtown Raleigh as well.
it did snow twice last year but it was basically gone in two days. housing is a little expensive here but the overall cost of living is not much different from Louisiana.
i can email you if you have anymore or specific questions, but i don't regret the move one bit.

I went there earlier this year. I was absolutely blown away by how clean it was. Everything looked nice and new. The lack of traffic was astounding

I feel like we are similar people. My wife and I would like to live in the east Tennessee/western NC area one day. Job wise it may be hard to make it out there currently. But, one can dream.

I lived there in the early 2000's. Would go back in a heartbeat.
Cary was an awesome town to live in back then. lots of great parks, good schools, and easy access to interstate

I've been in the Raleigh area since 2009 and love it. There's a great Alumni group here as well.
Most people talk about this area as "The Triangle" which includes Raleigh, Durham and Chapel Hill, but there a lot of smaller communities in the surrounding areas as well.
Housing here has been blowing up over the last few years, so be prepared. I work in Raleigh, but bought a house in Pittsboro due to my budget.
Let me know if you have any specific questions.

That has been one of the harder things to get a handle on. How is it commuting from the smaller areas? Can't imagine its any worse than Prairieville to Downtown BR.

Have a friend who lives there and loves it. I never been , but he told me he really likes the area.

No clue, I've never been in the winter. He complained about buying chains last year and posted pictures with snow.

its not bad if you can plan your commute, but hey they do have part of a loop and they are in the process of expanding it.

First off, there is no place like home. Miss Louisiana everyday. I've lived in NC since 2006 when I was stationed in Camp Lejeune. The beaches are really nice, the Outter Banks is a great place to visit. I moved to Raleigh in 2011 and was surprised by the city. Raleigh, Cary, Morrisville and Apex are all clean cities. A lot of wealth here, some people in Cary can be real snobs. The Angus Barn is a hit, I used to work at a Brazilian Restaurant called Brasa. Great night life and 3 major colleges nearby with NC, NC State and Duke.

I also live in Pittsboro. My wife works in RTP and there is no traffic for her to go to work.

It entirely depends on what time you leave in the morning. I find it to be the worst between 745-9am or so. Even then, I have multiple ways to get where I'm going with or without the interstate.
It's light years better than Baton Rouge, even if it doesn't have a full "loop".

My wife works in Chapel Hill and other than the construction on 15-501, traffic hasn't been an issue for her either, leaving at 715-730am.

My sister moved up there to Wake Forest about 10 or 12 years ago, we've been dozens of times and love it.
My daughters always say they wished they lived there, and the wife and I talk about retiring up there.
* I was born and raised in North Louisiana for 20yrs and have been in the greater Baton Rouge area for the last 20 years.
