Yes, but Jim never has to take a break, eat lunch, go to bathroom, or check Facebook every 1.5 minutes. Jim will lap a human several times easily in an 8 hr period. Plus, he don’t have PTO or sick leave, and Jim don’t have no baby mama to deal with!

“Jim” need a new left eye Lisa.

He’s got the peripheral vision of a cyclops.

Umm, no offense to the humanoid robot, but that thing is slow as shite. A human would be written up for that kinda bullshite work.

Yeah, but "Jim" never has to sleep, go to the bathroom, or get sick.

I get all the replies about it never taking a break and so forth and that it’s getting faster a bit.

But I still don’t see it ever replicating the speed of a human regardless…at least at the cost of power to achieve such speed vs paying a human minimal wages.

Now, some other non humanoid piece of technology could maybe achieve it…but that’s not what we’re looking at here.

Are you sure that's not just the average USPS worker?

I have no doubt a certain group is already trying to figure out how to count them in the census, have them illegally vote, and make them the next addition to LGBTQ+++++++++++.

You have to be kidding. In about two years it will be way faster than a human.

More than offset by the fact it can work 24 hrs a day without stop for lunch or breaks.

And not violate probation and have to do a week in the county jail.

Honestly, that is laughable at this point.

24/7 with no breaks, shift changes are taking a few seconds, they don't get tired and don't get sick, and I mean sick where they come in and work slower.

The minimum wage issue has to take in a lot of factors. The cost of a worker is not just the minimum wage but all the other incremental costs. WC insurance, SS matching, payroll, and all sorts of other human resources and managerial roles. Then you have the fact they don't require the same environmental conditions. Temperature, light, bathrooms, breakrooms, air quality, etc can all be less expensive due to their lower or lack of need.

I think this is a tiny window into the fact that trades are just as endangered as doctors, lawyers, and engineers. It is becoming when not if.

At some point, the robots will design, build, and maintain themselves. They will extract, refine, and finish all the materials needed to build themselves.

They just went over 100k packages sorted in under 80 hours.

No bitching
No FMLA
No drug issues
No drinking issues
No entitlements
No unions

Sounds like an employer's dream

This robot is doing nothing productive. It’s literally picking up a package and flipping it so the SKU is on the down side. Complete waste of money. This technology was available in the 1980s. Most companies have machines that already do what this Robot is doing. Automation is nothing new. The auto manufacturers have been using this type of thing for 50 years

You are completely missing the point. The sorting technology to do this has been around for decades and is being used in every large logistics sorting center in the world right now and those setups are far more efficient and accurate than these robots. The difference is that those are purpose-built systems using purpose-built hardware and software designed to do a specific job. They are also mechanically and electrically tethered to their specific work area. This is not to show that this robot can do this specific task faster than those machines. This is showing an autonomous robot can walk up to a work area, be given instructions, and do a job. The job itself is irrelevant. It is just to show that autonomous robots have the characteristics to do many jobs in the logistics and manufacturing environment.

When you understand the exponential nature at which this type of technology grows/improves it becomes more fascinating.

FYI they just started a human vs robot full shift comparison on the livestream.

If they show a robot loading a Fed Ex truck (which is manual labor that people still do - I did it in college) then it will have my attention.

But building a robot to do that faster than a human can would I think be either impossible or extremely expensive

I always wonder what the world would look like when we all have the power of AI to build our own robot armies and bodyguards.
