Eh... I don't know how much these are actually stopping people from driving drunk. Maybe a few here and there. Driving a scooter around drunk in the middle of the streets with no helmet isn't the safest alternative.

Lime keeps people on site that take care of maintenance, when they're marked as damaged Lime would mark them for transport to a drop off point where someone would come gather them up and repair them.

Bird takes care of their repairs through mechanics in the app, works similar to their chargers where a mechanic gets paid per scooter repaired. They had a TON of damaged ones and they just onboarded mechanics in Lafayette last week, my brother is one. Prior to that there was over 200 of them in Lafayette marked as damaged, though most just minor stuff. A mechanic from Texas came this past weekend and repaired and transported over 100 damaged ones.


ETA: It should be noted Birds shutdown at 9pm, you can't get one started after 9pm. Limes operated 24/7. They should probably impose a 9 or 10pm shutdown time to cutback on alcohol induced accidents.


ETA2: Both companies regulate to 15mph
Both companies tell you to wear a helmet and stay off sidewalks
Both companies required a drivers license to operate, any little kids on them were doing so with their parents account.

They must have a lot of insurance or be super dumb. I bet Gordon orchestrated as many of these things in as much of Louisiana as possible. It’s a whole new revenue stream for him. I can see the “scooter accident?” Billboards now

They really needed to be pulled. I work in downtown Lafayette and have seen first hand the problems with these scooters. It's basically a free-for-all when it comes to riding these things. Kids ride them anywheres they can...middle of the streets, sidewalks, up and down the parking towers, etc. They leave them right in the middle of all the major walkways/crosswalks. All the sidewalks have black marks all over them from the wheels. Kids are popping wheelies, attempting to jump curbs, etc...this isn't what they were supposed to be used for, but that's what happens when you drop a hundred of these off with anybody to have access to. People are also riding them like manual scooters, just using one leg to push them where they want to go. Eventually someone is going to cause a major accident with these things.

ETA: The other day downtown, I witness a group of hippie kids actually trying to ride one off a ledge that was about 2 foot high and land. They broke the plastic off the bottom sides and continued to laugh and have turns trying. I was secretly hoping one would break their collarbone.

This is the typical small town Louisiana dumbass shite. Nearly every major metro has embraced these things, and they've been affordable alternatives to driving a car. They've helped traffic. Yet, the arse backwards people in Louisiana resist any kind of change.

You're expected to provide your own helmet but of course no one does. One of those things where safety is in your own hands.
