Typical OT assumption arse. Taxes are needed, and as long as they are legit, and equal across the board i'm ok with paying them.
So yeah tax them just like the city would tax any other type of business that requires city street corners/sidewalks to make money.

Nealry 5000 less car accidents in Dallas County in 2017 than 2016, since July of 2018 there have been 4 reported accidents with scooters with no fatalities, one fatality has occurred that is under investigation. During the same time frame 23 fatalies have occurred in cars. Dallas has also seen improvement in commute times in the last year.

These scooters work well in large metropolitan areas because those areas typically have the infrastructure -- sidewalks, bike lanes, etc. -- to support their use.
Lafayette has that infrastructure in SOME places, but not all, and many of those scooter-friendly zones are not connected to each other, requiring you to use traditional roadways to get between them.

I've already said it's nearly impossible to do that for nearly everything, but in the same timeframe we've seen commute times lower, less wrecks, and more people using the scooters. At worse we can conclude they have not had any negative effect while providing affordable alternative transportation while being backed by the city as a viable alternative. Dallas has ranked in the top 10 in worse traffic for years, viable options to get cars on the road are needed and the scooters do that and have shown to not be dangerous or a detriment.

Let's not forget that the Segeway was supposed offer a similar alternative to pedestrian traffic. Imagine what that would have looked like on the sidewalks had they not been so expensive for anyone and everyone to acquire.
