I can't pass a lifetime of experience to you in one post, so I'll just do the basics:

Make sure you can see the next position of cover and concealment before you move. You want to time it, "I'm up, he sees me, I'm down." Move from one position to another like that until you are out of range, preferably in a serpentine fashion, and you'll probably be alright.

I’ve been looking for this for years and you’ll have to get lucky. You won’t find antebellum or walking distance but you can find homes in that style built in the early 20th century in a neighborhood with things to do only a short drive away.

Capitol heights, downtown or the lakes are really the only areas you’ll find the style you’re looking for in any decent numbers. The other option is to go outside of town but you’ll sacrifice the proximity to restaurants, etc.

Whatever you find, be sure to pull it up on google satellite images to ensure there are no clusters of trees/woods nearby. You’ll end up with homeless camps in your backyard.

Why don’t you just buy some land and build a plantation home and plant some cotton in the fields.

I’m not terribly familiar with the area.

Is the consensus that I’m looking for a unicorn?

now tell me about the antebellum homes
It depends on what war the home was built before.

Ante = Before
Bellum = War

Bellum/Polemos, the daemon of war from Greco-Roman mythology

Used in a sentence:
Si vis pacem, para bellum (Classical Latin: [si? wi?s 'pa?k?? 'para? 'b?llu?]) is a Latin adage translated as "If you want peace, prepare for war".

I'd rather live in a garden shed in a nice town than the nicest antebellum home in a shithole like Baton Rouge.

Seriously there are several antebellum plantation homes that you might purchase in the area around St. Francisville, La. , but you would have to drive about 40 miles to get to downtown baton rouge.

Baton Rouge was a tiny town at the time of the Civil War, so few homes that old still exist. The oldest desirable areas of town are beauregard town, spanish town, and the highland road area. Actual antebellum homes will be few and far between.

Why on earth would you move to Baton Rouge when everyone else is trying to leave?
