BATON ROUGE – In an unusual move, the mayor’s office has stopped answering questions about the downtown library debacle – instead, forwarding requests for information to the parish attorney.

For weeks, the Broome administration was making updates available. That abruptly changed Friday when WBRZ made a routine inquiry about the library’s situation.

A suddenly silent mayor is puzzling, too, since she pledged to be transparent months ago. “The citizens should get a consistent update,” the mayor told WBRZ in May. “The mayor should get a consistent update so that we can keep the community informed.”

The city attorneys probably advised her to shut her mouth because they have figured out this is a design issue not a construction issue and the city is going to have to pay to fix it.

I wouldn’t neccessarily take this to mean they’re suddenly trying to hide something. Seems more likely that it means there’s a real legal battle about to blow up and the parish attorneys want city officials to STFU so they don’t frick up the case.

When it finally opens there's going to have been so much negative press about it that people won't go because they'll be worried the damn thing is going to fall down

Demolition of the entire building will ultimately take place

If you want to look at it that way. Shutting up at the advice of an attorney due to pending litigation is not the same thing as trying to cover something up.

I was in construction for a decade. Contractors don’t frick stuff up like this on big projects. It just doesn’t happen. Even if they tried to there are basically third party inspections plus Arch/Eng inspections sometimes weekly not to mention testing so the likelihood that anything bad would go undetected is very slim.

But we got studies to do y’all!

I just want to remind all of you that back when this started I said the taxpayers would end up footing the bill for this debacle. I was roundly mocked and posters talked about bonds and insurance, blah, blah, blah. I submit to you the current studden silence of the Mayor as an indication of what is coming.

Demolition is the only solution to this fiasco.

The impact on the DOZENS who previously planned to visit the downtown library on a daily basis will be staggering. The hobo's might have to think twice before venturing over there to shite

This is like a kid spilling some milk and pulling a chair over it to hide it.

BINGO!
There is a reason why the Architect has not been heard from this entire time. SWB will have to come out and tell the tax paying public that they will foot the bill for the fix.

I've worked on both the design side and the construction side. Both sides can and do frick up. Sometimes they even frick up together.
