I wouldn’t neccessarily take this to mean they’re suddenly trying to hide something. Seems more likely that it means there’s a real legal battle about to blow up and the parish attorneys want city officials to STFU so they don’t frick up the case.
true...of course, the public has a very legitimate desire to know that.

BINGO! There is a reason why the Architect has not been heard from this entire time. SWB will have to come out and tell the tax paying public that they will foot the bill for the fix.
I am hearing all signs point to the structural engineer.

i would imagine the attorneys told her to be quiet.
this is a dispute between the general contractor and the design team (which represents the city, as the city hired the team)
and her talking could make the case harder for the design team to win....

I just want to remind all of you that back when this started I said the taxpayers would end up footing the bill for this debacle. I was roundly mocked and posters talked about bonds and insurance, blah, blah, blah. I submit to you the current studden silence of the Mayor as an indication of what is coming.
First, it is probably still way too early to know if this is constructability/materials related or a design issue. Second, if it's the latter the city has every right to recover from the design professional's insurance carrier. They more than likely won't but that says more about the elected officials than it does negligent designers.

they have figured out this is a design issue not a construction issue

Thank God for LSU or it would make Jackson, MS look like Austin, TX.

A lot of this mess is on our system of govt.
The Library Control Board operates with little over site from the Parish-Council and mayor.
No one votes against libraries, and the board has more money than they need; thus the notion that they can build monuments to themselves.
The design was extravagant; yet no one said wait a minute here; come back with something more practical.
Now we have a problem. This project should never have moved forward as designed.

Take the 300 grand you were gonna use for a company to tell you Baton Rouge is full of white Male CEOs and use it to help fix this inevitable city problem. Broome, you idiot.
St. George is gonna happen folks.

If only Troy Bell had been hired...ahhh what could have been.

Well this didn’t take long.. WBRZ

NEW: Downtown library mess now considered 'litigation'
BATON ROUGE – The parish attorney’s office said it now considers the infamous downtown library debacle “litigation” and the city will no longer be making public comments about the situation.
Tedrick Knightshead, a city attorney, released a statement to WBRZ after lunch Friday following a report by channel 2 about the mayor’s office no longer answering questions related to the library.
quote:
“The matter is considered in litigation. The Parish Attorney’s office doesn’t make comments on pending litigation matters. Unfortunately, because of the litigation I cannot comment further,” Knightshead said in an email to WBRZ.
"Because there is the potential for litigation, we will not comment further and have asked the Mayor’s office not to comment. We are still in the information gathering phase and, of course, hope to resolve the matter amicably," Knightshead's boss, Lea Anne Batson clarified.

Mayor Broome's cancelling BRAVE, stiffing LSU for the remaining payments, the Troy Bell/CAO crap, the firing of the police chief, the studies for inclusiveness, the Council on Aging and now this library BS are going to be albatrosses around her neck.
If BRAC, Forum 35 and the rest of the conservatives in BR who dislike the St. George movement have any sense of self-preservation then they have only two moves to make here:
1.) Run Kip again and fund the heck out of him to help CRUSH this wave of idiocy sweeping through the Capitol City.
2.) Find, field, and then FUND the hell out of a legitimate candidate who can actually win the Mayor President's Office in EBR and then run it with some smattering of sense. We need a guy who can provide vision and find a group of effective administrators.
If they can't do this, they're going to be reviled when St. George passes overwhelmingly and they use a backstop of lawsuits over legacy costs to the City Parish as a result of St. George leaving. Which will only cost the Parish and the cities millions of wasteful dollars in lawsuits.
But Baton Rouge is being mismanaged. On a macro-level. It's a joke. The form of government is simply no longer workable.
