Passing gear hits harder.
If that is what they want they should turn up the boost* and use E85... I hear the RX 350 uses the same pulleys on its supercharger that Prochargers do, with a Reichard 2.95 you should get about 20 psi.

Several friends have one. They all love it. If you get one, you'll probably love it, too, which is great because you'll see them everywhere.

My wife has one. Runs just fine on regular gas. This is her second lexus

They say 91 octane but they can run on 87. The compression ratio isn't that high. You only NEED 91 or 93 when you have a really high compression ratio. Like if you have Forced induction.
The engine when in a Toyota runs on 87 when in a Lexus 91. But it's the SAME engine. Think about it.

Not true as of a few years ago. ES350 didn't.

But you don't need to. That's why it says "recommended" and not "required". As others in this thread have said they do just fine with regular.
With computers and sensors in the fuel system your car knows how to adjust for variations in octane. Some mechanics will say 87 is fine for typical driving when a higher blend is recommended as long as you are not driving it like a maniac.
Fuel blends may vary in mountainous areas as 85 Octane is sold in Denver while 87 is needed on the coast. Your car does math and adjusts for this variation when you tank up in Kansas with 87 on your way to Denver.
Just don’t tank up in Denver with 85 on your way back down from the mountains that is when most problems start.

If you have to ask you don't need one.

2022 year model is fine with 87 octane
In 23 they changed the RX to a turbo charged 4cylinder (from a 6) and now 93 octane is recommended

Lower compression will take more boost than a higher compression setup.

Google it yourself, dumb arse. Here's a hint though, I've never seen a Lexus that recommends regular unleaded.
What a shitty "hint". Go back to sleep and let the men talk.

All Lexi use premium gas
I can't imagine a Lexus owner buying premium gas. That'd be like running into Giuliani picking up a six-pack of O'Douls.

It has the same engine as a Toyota Highlander.

I believe it calls for M5.

You do know that the RX is basically a minivan and built on the Camry platform, also shared with the Highlander???
Also its plumb ugly.
Also if you bought a SUV that wasn't pretending to look like a sports coupe you wouldn't have to buy an idiotic box for the top to haul stuff that should go in the trunk.
This is a very well built car/minivan but not much sense in buying over a Camry, even though most folks "need an SUV" whatever the heck that means. (it means you've completely fallen for madison avenue hype)

You can use regular, cars now have chips that adjust the timing, removes knocking. The Infiniti Q-80 and Nissan Armada are the same engine, 5.6 liter, the Infiniti says higher octane, the Nissan say regular. The Infiniti gets 1 mile per gallon more.

I had an LS430 for 400,000 miles and always used regular 87 octane.

Bumping this thread as I’m in the market for an RX350 and came across some info. According to the Lexus forum (and Lexus), the regular 2023 RX350 needs 91 octane since it now uses a turbocharged 4 cylinder. The RX350h (hybrid version) can use 87 since there’s no turbo involved.

Years ago you would have to adjust the timing on a car, the change in octane. Now, a computer chip does it. Whatever you use, it does it for you. Many car manufacturers use the higher octane to get better mileage in test results.
In the Infiniti big SUV it calls for the higher octane, same car, same engine in the Nissan Armada, they say regular, the Infiniti gets one mpg better.
