Why the hell do doctors and insurance companies give this any relevance? I'm 5'10 190 and Crossfit hard and considered overweight according to BMI. So I damn near failed to receive a discount from my health insurance co bc of this.

Probably because you are also considered retarded for doing cross fit.

Probably because they can predict with a high level of certainty that you'll have shredded knees and a fricked up back within the next twelve months.

Used to work out 5 days per week, I was considered overweight.
Stopped working out as I got older, lost muscle and gained fat, I am now considered a healthy weight

Bout a year. So according to the BMI ratings my friend who smokes weed, eats toaster strudels, plays xbox all day and is 5'9 165 is healthier than Rich Froning who is 5'9 198. That makes a whole lotta damn sense.

For the most part, the guidelines are not set by the insurance companies or the doctors but rather the government, but yes....it' a horrible scale.
