5th grade. I didn't think much about girls. Then Allison walked into the gym. It was a DARE presentation. I don't know what hormone decided to release at that moment, but I was smitten. I stared at her the entire presentation. My face was flush. I had prickles in my chest.
Never spoke a word to her in my life.

I don't want to talk about it. 18 years later and I'm still bummed about it
Yup. After a few failures you quit going into relationships with the same optimism you did when younger. I always kind of envy the folks who fell in love in high school and had it all work out.

As someone who grew up strictly Southern Baptist with lots of homeschool kids around and in a town where marching band was a big thing, I still must say
"homeschool band" has to be the nerdiest thing in history

I got broken up with by her in 6th grade. Cried like a bitch. She felt sorry for me and got back together, only to break up again 1 month later.
Fast forward 8 to 9 years to LSU, and I slept with her 1 night after going to her sorority formal with her. Like actual sleeping in her bed.
The crazy part was the next morning, I woke up to go back to my place, and when I got to my apartment, her little brother was in there with my brother. They were friends and came down for St. Patty's day to stay with me.
I gave him shite letting him know I just came from his sister's bed

Homeschool kids are weird, you are weird.

It was either my fourth grade teacher or Kim Novak, not sure which was first, but I’m pretty sure they both thought about me equally.

Damn. I had my first crush when I was like 6. Either you were a really late bloomer, or I was a really early bloomer.

My first crush was a girl in my youth group at church when we were both in middle school. She was short, blonde, sweet, and had a really thick southern accent that made me melt when she said my name. She was a little ditzy in personality, but not actually unintelligent (she was fairly good at math).
My freshman year of hs, she sat next to me on the bus most mornings and we would talk about whatever, but I was always too nervous to ask her out.
At the end of freshman year, whe helped me throw a party at my house which, at first, not many people showed up to. So, she went with me to my bedroom, sat next to me on the bed, and…helped get a bunch of people to show up.
The party ended up being a blast that really helped my popularity into next year (something I did not capitalize on), but when I didn’t make a move on her at the party, she moved on and got with another guy there.
We grew apart after that. She ended up getting into drugs and pregnant before high school ended, so bullet dodged. However, the image of her in a bright blue bikini getting out of my parents’ pool is forever etched in my adolescent brain.

Girl in 6th grade. Was in the beginning band with her (she played flute; I played tuba.) We got to be friends, but I was too shy to tell her how I felt. In 7th grade, we had 5 classes together, and became really tired of each other. Later, mutual friends accused us of hating each other, but I don't think that was ever true. We're friends on Facebook.

My first crush is 2 yrs older than me. She was my cousin’s best friend since we were all in grade school. She is still married to the only person she dated in high school. I’m a few times divorced. Over the years we see each other at funerals and I know without a doubt if one day she is widowed, we will be together. When I was a junior in high school, her boyfriend was a volunteer football coach and one day at practice I just randomly told him I was going to marry her. He just looked at me and said, hmm. I also had to write an English paper about “the perfect mate.” I wrote it about her and the teacher said I was the only student that wrote about an actual person. As I was going out the door, teacher told me she hoped it worked out.

When I was 14, I was falling fast for a blue eyed girl in my homeroom class. Trying to get the courage to ask her out was like trying to get oil from a water spout.

Saucy little Hispanic chick in junior high. It was in lilly-white Denham Springs back in the 90s and she was just exotic as frick.
