Whenever I hear certain songs, I immediately think of the music video for it. They played them so much I can't separate the video from the music.

Money For Nothing
Sledgehammer
Take on Me
Sweet Dreams
Wicked Game
Freedom '90
Thriller
Safety Dance
Addicted to Love

All that to say, I was at a buddy's house recently and Money for Nothing came over his $10,000 vinyl sound system and I was blown the frick away by the guitar riffs. In my head it was always a bunch of computer generated movers hauling appliances, and a bad arse song was behind it.

Still trying to figure out how Pat Benatar wasn't inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame until 2022.
I wonder who she pissed off.

Alan Hunter from Mountain Brook, Alabama was the first VJ to speak on MTV that day. It was actually by accident. The camera was focused on him first by mistake, so he had to just go with it and welcome everyone to MTV.

80s and 90s will go down as the best decades in human existence.

From a New Orleanian that was a longtime staffer at MTV

THE downfall started with Yo’ MTV RAPS and all these years later she is still very adamant about it

Wife and I went to see REO, Tesla and Def Leopard when the played the Smoothie King Center years ago. Dude from REO had the same fro, only it was snow white. Still put on a great performance.

Thanks OP, this has been a particularly enjoyable nostalgia trip.

They played the first hour on to mtv classic a few years.

It was cool. But;
It was on the SD mtv channel. Playing it on the hd channel would’ve presented a much more transparent medium.

Also it looked like it was probably recorded on u-matic or 1” which would’ve been appropriate. Sound was stereo and had that tape saturation sound.
