Those who know, know. This is a high quality, top tier Tigerdroppings based joke. Well done!

There's a term for that. It's "throwing good money after bad"

I’ve used the Better Business Bureau a few times and have received resolution on financial disputes before. Have you ever used them? File a complaint against eBay and the seller.

You need to study and read the Terms of Service on eBay.
I had an auction house sell me a counterfeit old train. It was subject to "as is" and the auction house did nothing because of the "as is". Of course, "as is" doesn't excuse a knowing counterfeit (and there is no way the auction house did not know it was fake). You can't sell glass representing it is a diamond and excuse the lie with "as is."
Iowa had venue, so I filed a complaint with the AG's office and they are working on it.

It’s interstate. If you are sure it is fraud and you can back it up, report it to the FBI internet crime division. They handle this stuff all the time.
You can contact the FTC and report it as well.
Did you contact your credit card company? If not, you need to call them and get an actual person on the phone. Lots of credit cards have consumer protection baked in.

Totally get it. Basically how I feel, although some of the realistic responses point to a dollar amount that I’d just let it go instead of chasing.

Might try this, can’t hurt.
Appreciate all the responses. Some really good ideas which is why I posted it here. Thanks fellas

From the online research I’ve done regarding bringing legal action, there are multiple suggestions that I need to retain a lawyer that practices within the sellers state (I believe this to be California, but eBay wouldn’t share with me)
This isn't correct. A state court where you reside would almost certainly have jurisdiction.

I get the idea of making a point even if it costs you money. It's fine. People do it all the time. We respect it.
Attorneys will be wary of you though, because probably 8 times out of 10 these vigilante litigants run out of enthusiasm and money before any joy comes. And often, the attorney gets the brunt of it, and if they've been down this road before, will point you to all the emails where they laid out how inefficient this will be and how you have no realistic prospects for recovery of fees and so forth.

just on principle

I get it, which is why I was trying to find a firm that has done this before with eBay sellers. My thought was they’d have a good sense of what I’d end up spending to see this through. From there I could decide if it’s worth it.

In no universe is this going to be worth it.

I had a similar experience on a rock n roll poster. I am not satisfied as to its authenticity, but no one will know but me and it's not worth the fight.
