I'd just like to say, as a complete amateur, and you can find it a bunch of pages back.... I called Cameron for landfall.

It always blows my mind to see trees with 15"-20" trunk diameters snapped in half 6ft off the ground. Like I've seen trees fall over because of soggy ground where the roots just can't hold. But for them to just snap like they do is insane to me considering the amount of force that takes.

I saw it firsthand with the April 2011 tornadoes in AL and seeing some of those in the drone footage reminds me of that. Absolutely crazy. Hope everyone comes out of this as clean as possible. Praying for you guys down there.

Laura was moving real fast, Rita was much slower. Laura had stronger winds but shorter time period

Rita was also larger/stronger, earlier on. It drove water across the gulf.

I think the weather people, and all of us, still have a lot more to learn about storm surge. After Katrina/Rita, they made some changes to their modeling and I can see that happening here too.

Our plan is to get back to Ragley on some property I have and build a red iron building with living area / barndominium and make it as weatherproof as possible.

Well I am just starting this process but from I’ve been researching I’m looking at $140 sq ft for top of the line. Now that may not be real cost. Most in the area seem to be about $120 sq ft but I’m not sparring expense at this point.

Someone mentioned it in another thread I believe, but I wonder how much of the better outcomes for power and other infrastructure is due to the rebuild after Rita? Prior to Rita it had been a long time since SWLA got a direct major hit, so infrastructure was in terrible shape. Trees too, obviously.

Rita and Ike thinned the herd quite a bit, I’d imagine.

Bleach cleaning products and chemicals that go in other daily used items, antifreeze being one. That means the work with chlorine, if that leaks as a gas, that is very bad news.

How did you end up Stout? I'm on E. Gauthier and only lost a couple shingles.

I can’t get over how bad the coverage is in TWC. How do you make a Cat 4 storm this boring? Just freaking drive around showing people what happened to their homes and businesses,
