Eric Webb agrees:

As others have alluded to this dropsonde in the northern eyewall of #Laura is nuts. After adjusting the winds for gusting, bringing them down to the sfc, & considering undersampling, this supports sustained winds of ~135 kts (155 mph). #Laura is nearly a category 5 hurricane LINK

Depends too in that area what road you on, cause like bank street, that shite turns into a river. But west of st Louis usually holds up decent and I would think you will be ok, but gonna be very close.
this makes me feel better b/c during Ike there was barely any water on the ground but 2 blocks away people were on jet skis in the road
my mom's house is also on piers. 1' to the outside siding and probably 3' to the flooring

is this thing heading slightly west of LC or am i missing something
Very slightly to the west and will put LC area in the eastern eye wall the whole time, worse case scenario.

most of lake charles still has power incredibly

163 MPH at the surface this time. It's going to get an upgrade to Cat 5 at midnight if I had to guess...
The problem is that could be a gust. There's a correction they do with the sonde data and I'm not sure that supports a 160 mph upgrade.
155 mph maybe...

I’m surprised Lake Charles still have power by watching Brett’s feed.

Did she just say river forecasts don’t account for rainfall? That seems like a major flaw
IIRC they only include the next 48 hours of forecasted rainfall

What they getting? The dumb weather channel app only shows 68 right now which isn’t believable
There's 123mph readings to the left and 150+ to the right.
edit: this is about 2k ft up though.

gusting to 89 mph now at Calcasieu Pass sustained of 57

That's a lot more believable than the first one.
And just looking at radar and IR, the northern eyewall is probably the strongest part.
Radar out of KLIX gives a little better view of the eastern eyewall.
It’s strong as hell, just can’t see the damn thing because of how impressive the northern eyewall is.

Safe to just assume the entire eyewall is fricking impressive right?

It won't be much longer before it's lost. The winds are only 30 to 40 maybe gusting to 50 so far.

I feel like an idiot because I don’t know what this means and why that is the case

They also leave some room for error for the fact they don’t sample the highest winds, statistically. It’ll be close. The numbers are there if they want to pull the trigger.

I'd love to see a feed from the Cameron courthouse right now
Wont exist in about ~hour or so. Crazy velo numbers coming that way.
Na courthouse has survived Audrey with this high of winds, Rita and Ike. It will still be there. Dunno if anything else will be.
