This is a normal pattern for these flights. It'll eventually go around the south and make a SE to NW pass.

Yes I looked at the other flights and they made their turns much closer in.

Would it help folks by telling them a percentage forecast.
Say 50% chance of a cat 2, 25% of s 3 and etc.? At least people would know several days ahead of time if the storm could hit major. The way they forecasted Laura did not serve the public’s best interest IMHO.

People don't understand percentages/probabilities either

If they said "20%" chance of a cat 5 storm, and it came in as a cat 4 storm...people would be saying WTF there goes the NHC being wrong again.

Yeah...they stayed for Rita mom said "never again" and I tried explaining this was going to be nothing like Rita. If you've spent anytime down there since Rita, the marsh does NOTHING to suppress tide rise, etc. close to town. Or at least that's what it seems anecdotally.

Gonna be a tense week. 27 and 82 had to have the sand bulldozed off before anyone could get in or out after Rita.

Incredible wind velocities of 180 - 205 mph just above the ground were observed by a dropsonde in the northeastern eyewall of #Laura, helping to confirm the winds the plane observed. The surface winds would be lower due to friction, but still extreme. LINK

I can’t believe this storm. Even watching it for the last 3-4 days, I can’t believe this.

Duke and RDS are like Ford and GM. Slack is more like Chrysler...part of the big 3 but not quite as reliable
