A weather channel quote “ the maps of Louisiana and Texas will have to be redrawn after this storm” that sound like a little extreme even for a Cat 5

This thing is going to be an inland buzzsaw. Hurricane Michael was a chainsaw 140 miles inland. There's probably people in CENLA who don't know what's coming.

I had a hunch this one was going to be a major hurricane, but if anyone had told me when it was a big mess near Cuba that it would be knocking on the door of a Cat 5, I wouldn't have believed them.

Does this mean Cat 5 is coming?

Probably a dumb question but can the Tx Natl Guard be deployed to another state if needed? IOW,stage to the west and move towards LC as fast or faster than the LANG since the storm will track N into LA and delay things

The extreme wind warnings getting up to Alexandria will hopefully get their attention.

Thank you!!! We are in the same boat and I didn’t know about Weathernation- I was wondering if we’d get coverage from anything besides local news.
Oh crap...

Meh. There will be alot less LA above ground in the next 7 hours, but the waters recede eventually.

Earlier posted my parents left Hackberry...mom just texted and said my step dad decided to stay. I don't understand WTF drives someone to make that decision. They live near the high school and I'm at a loss for words.

Well the 133 kt SFMR estimated surface wind could be rounded up to 135, but it takes 140 knots to get to Cat 5.

There is a chance multiple states will send Guardsmen to LA

Another sobering pass from Hurricane Hunters this evening indicating winds edging up toward Category 5. Not quite there, but 5-10 mph for a 150+ mph hurricane only matters for recordkeeping (plot via @InfoVizard) #Laura #HurricaneLaura
