Laura looks like one scary bitch right now. Haven't looked yet this morning, are models showing it intensifying at the same rate all day or kind of stalling out on the intensification?

Just about everything is in its favor to continue to strengthen. Maybe not RI like it did last night/this AM, but there isn't a whole lot limiting it. Hope for a bit of shear and/or dry air.

I'm working in the area right now chasing a fugitive for our great federal government.

Sorry I don't have a lot of time to dig. You understand.

Agreed but I think I read somewhere (maybe in here) how shallow the water is 100 miles out. That shallow water will possibly cause some weakening on approach.

Courthouse will survive. My grandfather rode Audrey out on the top of it with my pregnant grandmother. But it's stupid, absolutely stupid to ride it out down there and a good chance you die even in the courthouse, 100% chance anywhere else down there.

Yeah that courthouse will pull through again but I bet the people who decided to ride it out during Rita will advise not to do it. My previous in-laws are from Grand Chenier so I was able to get into Cameron parish a few days after Rita's landfall. It was incredible to see. The thing I always remember is how all the utility poles along 82 got ripped down and floated inland on the surge. The cables holding them together didn't break so they acted like a long band saw cutting into the oak trees along hwy 82. Cameron was leveled and nothing but a big mud flat.

Sadly this is about to be repeated.

Actually it was Sunday for me and I was listening to the opinions of actual professionals. You got facts to back up your opinions?

It may, but Laura should be a fast mover. It could work as a limiting factor, but she won't really hang around long enough to cause substantial weakening. What depth of water is there is quite warm.

HWRF takes Laura down to 937mb with 120kt winds right before landfall.

HMON goes down to 932mb with 128kt winds.
