Me: babe next week could be rough. I’m going to get beer and ice tomorrow. We should be prepared.
Fiancé: well how do you know? They are far away.
Me: I have 114 pages and counting of weather information that’s more reliable than anything on tv. I’ll take that over tv any day.
Weather threads are the best.

I am sure glad I live in New Orleans where we have Hot Dog Bun feet and the Sewerage and Water Board to protect us from these hurricanes.

So how are the insurance companies going to frick us with this ? Two named storms 2 deductibles ?????
They better have their own pictures showing damage was done by 2 storms because I am going with everything happened with the second one

So I have a side question for the weather folks here. How does something like Hurricane Ike happen where its remnants end up giving us here in Kentucky sustained 80 mph winds?
We had a similar issue last October in northeast MS and south central Tennessee from the remnants of one (Opal maybe?) that caused widespread severe damage and making matters worse it was pretty unexpected
I’m still not sure what caused it to ramp up so bad over our area
Edit: I see the boat posted about it, it was Olga

but a category 1/2 in the immediate impact area is no joke.
Happened to be in Westwego the weekend when I believe Cindy (later reclassified as a Cat 1) hit it in early season 2005. ‘‘Twas not a fun time.

East side is always stronger.
The front right quadrant relative to forward motion is the worst.
For LA, that’s the NE.
For somewhere like the eastern coast of FL, that would be the NW quadrant.

The convective pattern late this afternoon was not favorable for strengthening and now it looks like the LLC is just barely under the SW edge of the small convective burst. It wouldn't be surprising to see a partially exposed LLC in the morning as shear starts to pick up. I'm sure the system will make a couple more runs at trying to build convection back upshear and around the LLC but it looks pretty disorganized right now.

I was in Opelousas for Gustav, fresh out of high school, and that was rough. A block away from my house a building has a microburst or small tornado come through it, roof looked like the fist of Thor came down and smashed it. Signs for stores gone, trees down everywhere.
We didn't have power for 2 weeks, I think. I sit here and think about that and think about my family and wonder if we should be considering heading out from BR. I've been waiting to see what Laura does.

I think we were without power in Central/Watson (parents and our house) for at least a week with Gustav
