. They get and have the money to develop and maintain an adequate drainage system.
I don't disagree that DPW and S&WB have serious deficiencies in their maintenance of stormwater infrastructure. I've worked a lot with both agencies and know how they operate. My point is that doing more of the same is not going to work. We have seen what 100 years of pumping has done to Lakeview. Lakeview wasn't always below sea level. We made it that way by pumping the water out. Only fixing the pipes isn't the answer. New solutions are required. This is a new solution that is going to take multiple stakeholders to come together, and that seems to be the issue.
You have three groups at odds on this one. The city government, City Park, and NIMBYs. I think City Park has the biggest and most legit gripe. The system will only function if it's maintained, and City Park can barely maintain what they have. Any more burden placed on them is unfair and will result in failure of the project, thus will result in the realization of the flooding concerns the neighborhood residents have.

So she just straight up lied in this press conference?
That woman is something else.

Of course.

Has the fricking scumbag paid her nearly $100K worth of back taxes yet?

New Orleans Mayor LaToya Cantrell no longer owes back taxes to the Internal Revenue Service, according to a federal tax database, potentially putting to rest any revival of the tax controversy that dogged her 2017 election campaign and re-appeared during her first term.

A search of federal tax information Wednesday indicated that more than $122,000 in liens had been released against Cantrell and her husband, attorney Jason Cantrell. The IRS also released another $24,010 in liens against Jason Cantrell alone.

What?
Removal of groundwater results in subsidence. The New Orleans infrastructure is so fricked up that groundwater is constantly flowing into the stormwater drainage system. The pumps are removing the groundwater and causing subsidence via the breakdown of organic material due to the transition from an anaerobic environment to an aerobic environment.

And suburban Karens. And self-loathing liberals who were hippies in the 70s, and became everything they once professed to hate.

Lakeview residents were honestly confused by this letter because evidently it was a group of Lake Vista residents that were complaining about this particular issue (didn’t seem like many in Lakeview even knew what she was talking about). I think people just want their road work done in timely manner, meaning not starting a project then letting it sit undone for months.

If you live in New Orleans at this point you get what you deserve. Writing has been on the wall for a while.

quit relying so much on pipes and pumps.
You do realize almost every part of the city is below sea level. There is no New Orleans without pumps. The city is made up of 13 bowls that have nowhere to drain. Hell if the UNO Peninsula wasn't constructed by man, Lake Pontchartrain would have taken everything to Gentilly ridge...

This is a way to get funds to fix flooding in high value areas then use those higher funds to fix flooding in shitehood govt. subsidized areas.

Leaders like LaToya would rather rule over rubble than have their power questioned.

It's the only defense lest they get exposed for incredibly incapable they truly are. Bluster and pounding of fists are their way to win the day because they cannot do so based on the merits of their actions/plans
