She was probably worried that she would lose her voter base if they left and found a better life elsewhere.

It can be repeated. She was willing to risk their lives to keep them here to vote and potentially get her more federal funds for the emergency she created.

Has anyone brought up the fact that they were thinking about playing the Saints game at noon that Saturday??
Also, the resources they used to honor the fallen officer that Saturday?? There is no way they should have ever held that funeral that day.

She makes Dutch Morial look like Winston Churchill.
Makes me kinda' glad my Yat Dad is no longer alive to see what's become of his hometown.

That may be part of it, but the real reason is that she knew of a mandatory was called, that it would be expected that the government would have provided busses to pick up hundreds of thousands of people, and bring them to fully functional, safe, COVID-compliant shelters with lots of food and activities.
She didn't want the bad PR of a "messy" evacuation. So she rolled the dice and didn't call for one.

And a bunch of people still evacuated & the loss of life was minuscule

How many people do you think live in Orleans parish that cannot drive? I can tell you it isn’t hundreds of thousands

Where are the local "journalists" reviewing the decision and questioning her and the city council?

ehh i could easily see ~150k people in orleans parish not having access to a car to evacuate

They're a bunch of nut-less cowards. Only one I would even consider, if he was still a "reporter" would be Richard Angelico.

Nah. I’m not saying those people are insignificant. But I’d cut that number in half
Even still, everyone remained pretty safe.
Post storm recovery should be the focus here. Y’all still harping on insignificant shite

It’s what the guy brought up which was a valid criticism because she lied.

Deflect, deflect.

Ignoring a blatant lie and not holding her (and the other power that be) accountable is a great way to have a worse outcome in the future.
Saying that topic is insignificant because it isn't part of recovery is wrong.

It should be part of the conversation, agreed.
The fact that the city had trash collection issues pre storm with no plan to collect the excess trash post storm is one of the issues. She governs via social media posts and when the noise got loud enough, she reacted.

The only logical scenario I've seen thus far regarding not issuing evacuation

Seems like people acquire cars for free all everyday in Orleans. Doubt it's much of a hurdle to get one in a life or death scenario
