Russia can project power if nobody fights back and if its tugs can keep its aircraft carrier moving fast enough to launch planes.

China can legitmately project power throughout the Pacific and Indian Oceans. They lack the logistical ability to change the balance of power in the Atlantic

Only if you use the term very, very loosely.

I don’t think this is true…

Now that *could* change… and why so many folks here and in Australia are worried about this China/Solomon Islands deal… but we’ll see.

Now would be an appropriate time for Ukraine, the U.S., and all western allies to begin stating repeatedly that Russia has the power to end all hostilities by withdrawing completely from all Ukrainian national territory, including the "separatist areas."

I'm no diplomat, but at some point we all should articulate very clearly the requirements for the end.

China isn't going to be projecting any power with its fleet of two aircraft carriers. The first one being built off the hull of a 40 year old Soviet ship and the second ship that was built domestically that is significantly outclassed by all 11 US aircraft carriers.

Mariupol is regularly resupplied by helicopter. At this point, I think the Russians allow it because they know that ‘winning’ in Mariupol means that they’ll be redeployed to the Donbas meat grinder.

I didn't say domnate. I said "project power"

You can project power by running at least one carrier strike group along the Eastern pacrim and Indian Ocean Theatres. You can also project power via smaller force deployments such as cruisers running antipiracy patrols and subs running intelligence missions.

Obviously they are currently no match for the USN which is the greatest naval power in the history of mankind.

Yeah they were very effective against unarmed women and children in Syria.

China, will use its new destroyer fleet to project its power.
Also, they are in control of many ports through out Africa, South America. They are very smart and building up power as quietly as possible.

Anti ship missiles will make quick work of those.

As for the current war, any updates on a possible counteroffensive in Mariupol? I know there have been rumors, but it would be nice if it came to pass.

We'll see what happens when some warlord kidnaps a bunch of Chinese workers and holds them for ransom. They'll have to pay up and look weak or take the gloves off, drop the pretense of soft power and be hated by the locals just like every other colonial ruler ever.

That may be a bridge too far but Kherson is about to get interesting.

I think the first one is strictly for training and the second is still being "tested" .They do have two currently being built.

An adviser to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky made cryptic references to reports of overnight explosions in regions of Russia bordering Ukraine. Myhailo Podolyak said that "the Belgorod, Voronezh, and Kursk regions are now also beginning to actively study such a concept as 'demilitarization.'" It comes after blasts were heard in three Russian regions bordering Ukraine, local authorities and Russian state media reported. #CNN #News

I think the message here is with better weapons new targets come online. If you really want to get Vlads attention hit the oil docks in Sevastopol. No oil on tanker, no cash.

What about submarine fleet? I never hear about Chinese subs, which I guess means they are doing something right.
