Russia wanted to pay with the dollars that had been frozen by sanctions. That's a non-starter.
As has been pointed out previously Russia could change their rubles to dollars and then pay if it wanted to.

There is no way to transfer enough rubles to NYC in order to exchange them for USDs since the Russians destroyed the AN-225.

Also the current ‘exchange rate’ is baloney. They really thought they could dictate exchange rates by just refusing to allow foreign exchange to all but the elite few.
No serious country is gonna honor that rate. If the capital restrictions came off tomorrow their economy would come unglued overnight. Exchange rates would sink to like 400:1

Apparently the Indians are buying Russian oil for like 20 dollars a barrel. Of course they pay in US dollars and its an old school transaction, back the truck up and unload the money on the ship.

Air Assault is still pretty difficult I think. If you can breath without being reminded you can make it through airborne school.
I haven’t been to either so I’m just going off the caliber of dudes I see that have airborne vs air assault badges.

Pairs well with what I’ve read myself about Russia history from their perceived defensive perspective. Agree when he says Russia destroyed 50 years of strategic planning in China, we can argue if Russia or Ukraine or Ukraine + West did so and likely it’s all of the above, but point remains. Prior to invasion I was convinced this would invite China to attack Taiwan either while Ukraine was active or shortly after. I was admittedly surprised at the severity of sanctions by the west, and of course I think most everyone has been surprised by the level of ineptitude of the Russian military after 70+ years of build up to the opposite. I think China is very much pausing.

US acknowledges the Russian convoy going towards Izium, says it includes a command element, support battalion, and helicopters. US unclear what the final destination for these forces will be. No indication for when the Donbas offensive will begin.
Clear indications that Russia is focusing on Donbas. Russia is reinforcing its posture in the city of Donetsk (this was held by the DNR prior to the war) with artillery. Russia has about 20 BTGs in the Northeast, half of which are in Ukraine, though the latter number has increased by 2 in the past day. There are still "dozens" of BTGs arrayed in the South and Southeast of Ukraine.
Russia still occupies Kherson, but has been unable to take Mykolaiv. Situation in Mariupol is dire, but US assesses that the Russians aren't any closer seizing the city than they were last week.
US refutes Russian claims that it destroyed an S-300 battery that had just been delivered by Slovakia. Weapons transfers to Ukraine are "near-constant", and the US hasn't experienced any difficulty getting them into the country.
US unclear what the appointment of Army General Alexander Dvornikov will mean for the war, does not necessarily see his appointment as helpful in the conflict.

Air Assault is generally considered harder than jump school. It has a lot to do with the fact air assault is a shorter more intense program and it has the more complex and mental sling load section. Being honest if you are in excellent shape neither is actually difficult, well unless you have a serious fear of heights.
Many of the Army schools revolve around the physical. I used to try to instill in my troops preparing for schools (especially Ranger and Sapper) to be in the best physical condition they possibly could when they arrived. The whole idea is to break them physically to reduce their mental acuity, if you become physically unsmokable then you keep the majority of your mental acuity, and you will impress the Lane Graders. In the case of air assault school the op tempo is just much higher than jump school so it is harder to become a certified dope on a rope.

Airborne was easy, just pass 17-21 year old apft and you would make it. I still to this day hate rucking, so AA never appealed to me.

I went thru in the summer of 99. Of all the folks that didnt make it I would say 99% were due to injuries.
I still recall that chant during tower week: "hit the hole, hole man, hit the hole"
