Kremlin spox Dmitry Peskov said Ukraine's statement was "movement in a positive direction" and promised to "analyze" it.

But foreign minister Sergei Lavrov said Russia would only negotiate after it "restored order" in Ukraine and claimed Zelensky was "lying" about neutrality.

A very good writeup for shallow, vapid, empty headed sheep who are unable to think critically and see the world only in Lifetime black and white.

Countries aren’t people. They are made up of people and just as Rhode Islanders are different from Floridians are different from Texans (hell, people from different regions in the same state can be vastly different).

Painting Ukraine as this innocent, independent strong woman from some millennial movie and the west as her gung ho you go get em girl always positive friends standing up against her evil huwite ex is…well it makes perfect sense it was written by a Redditor.

Ukraine is the whore with 3 kids by 25 from 3 different pos guys that posts selfies on Facebook about being a strong independent woman. We feel bad about the kids from afar but realize helping would likely make everyone worse off.

That is just bull crap from somebody who wants to side with Russia and Putin openly but is too big of a coward. In this scenario there is a clear aggressor and a clear victim. Nothing Ukraine did came close to justifying this. Putin is a tyrant hell bent on power this isn’t news it’s been the reality for years.. Stop thinking zebras and think horses

Dealing with 3rd world insurgencies from a religion, region, and language that have traditionally been pretty far outside our wheelhouse is an entirely different beast than hammering home core competencies against a nation state that’s been the top target for our intelligence services for almost a century. We’ve been two or three steps ahead of the Russians in this aspect almost the whole way, starting a week or more ago. Publicly - and accurately - broadcasting their every intention is a pretty damn deft maneuver, and I say that as no fan of Biden.
I mean all they really did was take pictures with satellites and say “oh look there’s a big arse army on your border, they’re probably gonna use it to do big arse army stuff.”

Has Ukraine not been subjected to unthinkable atrocities at the hands of Russia in the past?

I’m not on any side. I’m pointing out that a cute Reddit analogy is far from accurate and kind of silly. Pretending that the west is some magnanimous group when we’ve spent the last 20+ years invading other sovereign countries and meddling in affairs is just asinine.

Putin is another petty tyrant in a world of petty tyrants doing petty tyrant things. But it’s a bit more complicated than a toxic relationship. It’s easy to paint with a broad brush and create these black and white analogies when the reality is much more complicated.

The Russian news outlet Baza has shared this video, saying that it shows 10,000 Chechen security officials in Grozny preparing for deployment to Ukraine.

The Reddit post.

Look, I get what they were trying to do and for what they did they did it fairly well, but it falls apart with even a modicum of critical thinking and honest questions. It’s a bit like painting Germany and the central powers as pure evil in WW1 and the Allies as pure good. It takes away the humanity of the soldiers that fight on either side and ignores the systems and circumstances that created the conflict.

Nothing happens in a vacuum and the events playing out now have been in the works for decades. And like Germany in WW1, a swift end and some territory change may end up being preferable to a long, bloody war that draws all of Europe and more into a global conflict.
