This is an extremely germane point. The west is getting its current crop of several weapon systems battle-tested without the human costs to them. Anyone that has ever been in combat with new equipment knows there are usually "bugs" and almost always a learning curve to most effectively use and deploy any new system. Any proxy war has long-lasting cost far exceeding cost of munition that you're "testing".

Is Ukraine war not a proxy war? Because that is the comparison I am drawing. Nobody in the 80's imagined that arming Taliban would could mass migration to Europe and US getting bogged down in ME for two decades.

First, use some articles they are free and would make your posts sound more American.
Second, there are a ton of costs associated with building and maintaining the most powerful military in the world some of them are certainly human. I have seen it up close and personal. We have chosen that path and at this point in history I think we have chosen well. The alternative would be to backslide and become a joke of a military power like Russia has and is putting on full display to the world.
